Job Title: Manager - SOX Compliance

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary Champion is seeking an execution-oriented and strong team player who can focus on end-to-end SOX Compliance. The candidate should be capable of working across functions in a global environment. The candidate must have a firm grasp of accounting and SOX methodologies including risk assessment, process flow mapping, documentation, control design, testing strategies and evaluation of deficiencies. The candidate will also be a key member of designing and executing remediation plans.

The candidate must have the ability to effectively manage partners (internal and external auditors, outsourcing partners, control owners) who assist the Company with SOX compliance and testing. Should be able to demonstrate proficient project management skills, communication (written and oral) and organizational skills. The applicant may be physically located in Troy, Michigan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Analyze risks and the design of controls around key business processes and provide fundamental guidance on the control environment to the organization.

Update documentation including process flowcharts, process narratives, the risk and controls matrix and evaluate controls as new systems are developed and/or processeschange.

Coordinate with internal and external auditors on the annual SOX testing plan and provide support to them to ensure timely and smooth completion of SOX projects.

Assist in control deficiency analysis and development of remediation plans (including root cause analysis). Ability to recognize themes and trends across the global organization.

Function as a control expert in a highly visible role operating in a dynamic business environment.

Assist with migrating the Company's control environment from the legacy manual procedures to a system-basedapproach as a part of the ERP implementation team.

Ensure clear, concise, actionable, and practical observations and recommendations, with a well-documented process for communication and clearance.

Provide process excellence knowledge, including training, to control owners and control managers.

Maintain awareness of current and emerging issues related to internal controls and internal audit, including but not limited to, IT, e-business, regulatory and accounting changes, etc.

Assist in leading meetings with management in communicating initiatives, internal control findings and recommendations and various other matters as deemed necessary.

Assist with special projects as assigned by management, including but not limited to, risk and internal control implications for acquisitions, new technology and new business initiatives.

Develop and maintain strong and effective relationships and work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other internal functions, external audit, and other professional service providers.

Manage the Company's quarterly risk assessment/update.

Regularly attend audit committee meetings to report on the results of the SOX compliance.

Qualifications

  • A BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.

  • A minimum 5+ years of experience in an internal control orinternal audit role; experience with similar roles in a large organization or with a Regional or Big 4 audit firm highly preferred.

  • An appropriate certification in accounting and/or auditing is strongly preferred, including a CPA, CA and/or CIA.

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, COSO, PCAOB Auditing Standards, Sarbanes-Oxley, risk and controls standards and business process best practices.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Experience with ERP implementations a plus.
