Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated senior or intermediate Structural Engineer to join our team in Trail, BC. This role is a hands-on technical role, directly interacting with clients and stakeholders to deliver projects that add value to client operations. The role is a mix of office work in the Trail office and field work at nearby brownfield sites, for inspections, project scoping, and field visits.

Trail is located 10 minutes from Rossland and the famous Red Mountain Resort. The Rossland region is a mecca for mountain biking in the summer and skiing / snowboarding in the winter. As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist the Trail structural team with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule for green and brownfield projects.

  • Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation

  • Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities

  • Conduct work with a focus on safety

  • Conduct structural inspections of existing brownfield structures

  • Prepare engineering calculations of both new structures and modifications to existing structures

  • Prepare technical memos and reports

  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates

  • Prepare and/or review project standard specifications and design criteria

  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews

  • Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule

  • Seal documents and drawings as required

  • Manage small capital and maintenance projects

  • Assist in defining project scope and preparing proposals

  • Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, designers, technicians and technologists

  • Prepare and deliver weekly engineering status reports for small projects

    You bring to the role:

  • A recognized degree in civil/structural engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Registration as a professional engineer in BC, or the ability to register as a professional engineer in BC

  • Minimum five years engineering experience in the industrial sector.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Good planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to function with minimal supervision

  • Sound understanding of Canadian design engineering codes and technical standards

  • Experience with Mathcad, and Staad Pro or similar structural analysis software

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Strong commitment to Hatch and client safety standards

  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others

  • Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects

  • Good leadership skills
