Job Summary:

The Web Content Coordinator will work with professional and technical teams providing a wide range of creative services in support of divisional strategic objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Writes and edits creative copy for a variety of interactive media including the Internet, Intranet, Social Media, Multimedia presentations, and other promotional tools.

  • Ensures that content within the division's internet and intranet sites are integrated, accurate and current. Provides evaluation and analysis of web use statistics and client feedback.

  • Provides expertise and develops and implements guidelines for the structure of information within applications and systems.

  • Consults with business units and provide support to project teams to determine business unit information and web-based service to identify solutions to meet business requirements. Develops, redesigns, and improves workflows, methodologies and processes for maintenance and development of quality information and content.

  • Plans, executes and documents user interviews and usability tests.

  • Creates and presents user personas, user experience scenarios and test cases.

  • Develops, documents, implements and monitors adherence to web development and information management standards including style guides, metadata standards, taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, and other classifications systems for navigation or other categorization needs.

  • Assists with the maintenance and development of content libraries consisting of information and design assets in the form of text, photography, graphics, video and audio.

  • Ensures that content providers are trained in writing for the Web by setting standards. Develops, delivers and evaluates training programs and materials.

  • Assists in the development of marketing and communications strategies, including coordinated workplans and editorial schedules across multiple channels, including social media.

  • Provides expertise in the development and support of new web-based products and services as the division's information needs evolve.

  • Ensures that legal and legislated standards are upheld (e.g. the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the Trade-marks Act and the Copyright Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act).

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media or approved equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience.

  2. Experience in content creation, digital marketing and social media management.

  3. Experience writing online content and maintaining corporate guidelines.

  4. Experience with at least five of the following applications: Adobe Web Creative Suite tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Canva, Hootsuite, or related graphic design, video editing, and web development applications.

  5. Experience with government legislation, in particular the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

You must also have:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Province of Ontario, Class “G” Driver’s License, and must have the ability to obtain the required City Operator's permit for assigned vehicle(s) and equipment(s).

  • Must be able to travel to various sites and/or work locations within the City of Toronto.

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: proven ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels; exceptional technical, verbal and written communications skills and ability to establish and maintain a good consulting relationship with stakeholders and vendors.

  • Ability to show initiative and self-direction, maintain currency of knowledge, identify and solve problems that require investigation and creativity, and respond flexibly and productively to multiple and changing priorities in a results-oriented team environment.

  • Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)'s requirements and standards applicable to information including the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR).

  • Knowledge of web and social media analytics and ability to monitor trends and provide reports.

  • Ability to conceptualize animal-focused content and comfort working with animals and in shelter and field settings.

  • Ability to pitch new concepts to stay ahead of social trends and new tools and technologies for content creation and management.

  • Knowledge of writing and editing content for the web.

  • Knowledge of the implementation of web-based Documents and Content. Management Systems such as SharePoint or Open Text.

  • Knowledge of records management, email management and electronic document management principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of Animal By-Laws and Animal Services objectives.

  • Knowledge of common wildlife species, dogs, cats, and breeds, along with basic animal care.

  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.
