  • Location Information: Vacancies are anticipated at various locations across the City of Toronto, including:

  • North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge Street

  • Etobicoke Civic Centre, 2 Civic Centre Court​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction to staff and coordinates activities e.g. scheduling, attendance, daily financial reconciliations.

  • Makes decisions and recommendations e.g. approves eligibility for all planning and development related applications.

  • Provides advice, guidance and opinion to staff, agencies, Councillors, members of the development industry and the general public on a range of land use planning and development related matters.

  • Interprets and ensures compliance with applicable legislation, by-laws, policies and procedures.

  • Co-ordinates research and analysis to develop service options for interested parties.

  • Provides verbal and written communications to all inquiries and complaints.

  • Participates in dispute resolution processes.

  • Advocates on behalf of customers and assists in problem resolution.

  • Liaises with internal divisions, other levels of government and community stakeholders.

  • Responds to enquiries from the public, City divisions, consultants and development industry on planning policies and procedures.

  • Provides information on the Official Plan designations and related policies and Zoning By-law amendments.

  • Liaises with the Planning Division regarding planning assignments.

  • Communicates with other sections, divisions, agencies.

  • Provides advice and guidance on the preparation of planning submissions and reviews the submissions for completeness of information.

  • Participates in cross-training in other disciplines within Customer Service.

  • Works with other staff to support system applications.

  • Provides zoning information.

  • Reviews permit application drawings for compliance with zoning by-laws for issuing a building and/or plumbing permit for residential and commercial construction proposals.

  • Provides direction to Customer Service staff and trains new staff. Must be familiar with and comply with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations for the safe performance of his/her duties and responsibilities, or capable of obtaining familiarity of same.

  • Represents the Division at various committees and meetings.

  • Provides planning advice to City staff, agencies, councillors, industry and the public on a wide range of planning and development related matters.

  • Responds to inquiries and co-ordinates requests for access to records in accordance with MFIPPA.

  • Prepares various reports, documents, audio/visual presentations and materials.

  • Makes site visits occasionally, as requested

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Post-Secondary degree or diploma in planning or related professional discipline and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. Considerable experience in reviewing, and providing guidance on planning and development related projects and matters.

  3. Experience providing work direction, training, and guidance in a customer service environment.

  4. Experience working with development proposals and processes.

  5. Experience in interpreting and applying requirements of Applicable Laws, Zoning By-Laws and the Ontario Building Code Act and its regulations related to the Building Industry.

You must also have:

  • Ability to review and provide advice and guidance on planning and development related projects with minimal direction, while balancing political, community and other stakeholder interests

  • Well-developed written and oral communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain solid internal and external relationships

  • Ability to use critical judgement and strong analytical thinking

  • Ability to manage client expectations
