The team:

The Global Technology Enterprise Platforms (GTEP) Architecture ensures the design and implementation of systems and infrastructure patterns, principles, frameworks, and standards to align with Scotiabank’s business requirements. It supports both short- and medium-term business and technology initiatives while also focusing on the Bank’s 3- to 5-year technology roadmap to drive innovation and the adoption of next-generation technologies. Collaboration occurs with Enterprise Architecture, other Global Technology Services (GTS) teams, and business technology stakeholders to connect subject matter experts with various architects (business, information, domain, and solution). The team aims to promote global technology consistency through fully aligned technical strategies, roadmaps, and designs.

The role:

Reporting to Director of IT Infrastructure Architecture & Automation, you will lead infrastructure teams in reviewing current & future infrastructure solutions, and document reference architecture standards. This will include helping GTEP team members with adding/updating and/or reviewing technology products catalogue.

You will lead work with vendors and internal teams to complete “Proof of Concept” for the new infrastructure projects or products; plus, assist the GTEP Architecture team in reviewing & approving Scotiabank technology LOB’s requests, and participate with other technology architects to review/advise project teams with best practices to achieve approved architecture design proposal.

When required to be working onsite, you can work from our downtown Toronto or Scarborough campuses, so you can collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders across the Scotiabank network, regardless of your work location. You will have access to collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams to connect with Scotiabank employees worldwide. Occasional travel to Scotiabank IT centers outside of Canada, may be required.

Is this role right for you?

  • You get to lead discussions with Scotiabank’s Application Solution Architects & Security team to define cloud infrastructure strategies.

  • You are eager to participate in technology Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) to review & recommend proposed solutions.

  • You thrive on leading technical documentation and information analysis for complex solutions, work with GTS teams to propose the necessary infrastructure design and security standards and/or propose enhancement to existing architecture designs.

  • You embrace the tasks to identify & analyze Infrastructure architecture gaps to propose new technologies required. Establish pilots and Proof of Value (POVs) for proposed solutions and make recommendations to the decision-making architecture review boards for approvals.

  • You like the challenge to work with the GTS Architectural Governance team to capture and document standards, infrastructure patterns, principals, and frameworks in a consistent and clear format. While ensuring quality, accuracy, and currency of the standards within the reference library are aligned with Business and GTS needs.

  • You get to engage with existing and new vendors to review solutions for operational challenges and evaluate new products to adapt in GTS products roadmaps.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You can demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written/presentation) skills in English. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.

  • You also have proficient collaboration skills, which will be used to work effectively with cross-functional teams, articulate technical designs, and present complex solutions to stakeholders.

  • You have at least 3+ years of progressive hands-on technical working experience with Cloud Computing & can demonstrate a solid understanding of infrastructure cloud technologies, platforms, and services (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) offered by major cloud providers (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure & Google Cloud Platform).

  • An asset to have technical working knowledge with the implementation & support of Microservices using Kubernetes (K8’s).

  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience as an engineer or architect with at least 1 flavour of virtualization technology (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Kernel-based Virtual Machine [KVM]) & can demonstrate a good understanding of how to manage virtual platform.

  • You have at least 3+ years of hands-on technical working experience on Physical-to-Virtual (P2V), backup & disaster recovery.

  • You have at least 3+ years of strong technical working knowledge of hardware and server components, network protocols, storage solutions, database concepts and datacenter operations.

  • You can demonstrate you have technical working knowledge of cloud security best practices (e.g., encryption mechanisms, identity & access management (IAM), firewall rules & vulnerability assessments).

  • You can also demonstrate fundamental concepts of the ability to write & troubleshoot a code and solve automation use case via the use of Terraform, Ansible & Python.

  • You have basic working knowledge of fundamental networking concepts, such as subnets, IP addressing, routing & DNS in the context of cloud environments.

  • You also have basic working knowledge with the understanding of design, implementation & troubleshooting cloud networking configurations, including virtual networks, security groups, routing tables, and load balancers.

  • Completion of a post-secondary education in Computer Science or in a related field of study.
