Reporting to the Group Manager, Digital Accessibility, the Associate, Digital Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for running accessibility testing on our web and mobile platforms. They will support the software build teams to create accessible and inclusive web and mobile applications for our clients. They will follow established methodologies but will recommend ways to improve them and validate the evolution of these methods before the changes are shared with our internal partners. They will learn from an established team and develop a deep expertise of the platforms, processes and tools we use to advance the vision of digital accessibility throughout the bank.

Is this role right for you?

  • Performs accessibility testing of our digital products including websites and mobile apps.

  • Completes standards conformance reporting in relation to testing activities.

  • Recommends improvements to internal reporting, testing processes and tools.

  • Works with the rest of the digital accessibility team to build and evolve accessibility test plans and tools.

  • Validates new testing methodologies and tools prior to release to internal partners.

  • Provides regular status updates and call out risks and issues to release and project timelines.

  • Maintains an in-depth and up-to-date understanding of the organization’s products, applications, systems, environments, processes and tools.

  • Learns and leverages new tools and methodologies for Accessibility Quality Assurance, on a continuous basis.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Thrives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with multiple concurrent projects.

  • 2+ years experience with automated and manual accessibility testing websites, web-based applications, and mobile applications.

  • Self-motivator; able to grasp concepts quickly with minimal supervision, take ownership of problems and follow them through to completion.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with outstanding attention to detail.

  • Understanding of the web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, 2.1, 2.2.

  • Working knowledge of at least one of the assistive technologies our customers might use such as screen readers or voice input systems.

  • Able to effectively communicate accessibility issues in software and how to fix them.

  • Knowledge of disabilities and how they effect software usage.

  • International association of accessibility professionals (IAAP) certification is an asset.
