ProMedica Health System Director of Pharmacy Centralized Services - Pharmacy Admin - Full Time - Days in Toledo, Ohio

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Pharmacy Centralized Services will oversee all centralized pharmacy operations and business services across the system. The position will supervise managers and staff responsible for pharmacy logistics, centralized bulk compounding, order verification, prior authorization and refill authorizations, and drug warehousing, driving operational consistency and financial optimization. Direct Reports: Managers in areas of sterile and non-sterile compounding, supply chain, revenue cycle, and clinic/hospital operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the VP and Chief Pharmacy Officer, the Director of Pharmacy Centralized Services is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of centralized pharmacy services across ProMedica. This includes managing bulk sterile and non-sterile compounding, centralized order verification, prior authorization, and refill authorizations, telephonic clinical pharmacy services, logistics, drug warehousing, and pharmacy system business operations. The position involves close collaboration with both local and system leaders to ensure alignment with ProMedica's strategic objectives.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Development and Management of Department or Program Across the Pharmacy Enterprise

o Leads system-wide centralized pharmacy services to enhance financial, operational, and clinical performance.

o Directs pharmacy programs such as bulk sterile and non-sterile compounding, centralized order verification, prior authorization, and refill authorizations, telephonic clinical pharmacy services, logistics, drug warehousing, and pharmacy system business operations to align with system goals.

o Develops strategies to optimize pharmacy business services and centralized operations.

  1. Financial Management and Budgetary Oversight

o Manages operating and capital budgets for centralized pharmacy services.

o Establishes and monitors financial performance metrics to ensure budget adherence.

o Identifies opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth through improved operations and procurement practices.

  1. Management Responsibilities as a Senior Leader

o Provides leadership and development for managers and staff across centralized pharmacy services.

o Drives recruitment, retention, and performance accountability for diverse, high-performing teams.

o Ensures the execution of organizational priorities, promoting consistency across service lines.

  1. Job-Specific Accountabilities

o Oversees system-wide bulk sterile and non-sterile compounding, centralized order verification, prior authorization, and refill authorizations, telephonic clinical pharmacy services, logistics, drug warehousing, and pharmacy system business operations

o Collaborates with the 340B program to ensure compliance, maximize savings, and mitigate risk.

o Monitors and addresses drug shortages, collaborating with clinical stakeholders to maintain critical supply levels.

o Enhances pharmacy data analytics, contract management, and technology optimization.

  1. Execution of Department and Organizational Strategies, Goals, and Business Objectives

    o Aligns centralized services with ProMedica’s strategic plans and operational priorities.

o Collaborates with system and local leadership to implement best practices for financial performance and compliance.

o Drives continuous improvement in centralized operations.

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• Management and Oversight: Directs centralized pharmacy services, supervising staff, policies, and compliance management.

• Business Development and Growth: Identifies and operationalizes business opportunities to drive innovation and growth. Collaborates with stakeholders to align business initiatives with system priorities.

• Pharmacy Supply Chain and 340B Program: Manages procurement, inventory, and compliance with 340B regulations. Leads efforts to optimize vendor relationships and inventory control.

• Budgeting and Financial Management: Oversees financial planning for pharmacy services, analyzing performance and managing variances.

• Technology Optimization and Data Analytics: Works with IT to enhance pharmacy systems and data analytics for performance improvement.

• Drug Shortage Mitigation: Develops and implements tactics to address drug shortages and maintain supply levels.

• Strategic Collaboration: Participates in system-wide strategic planning, working with pharmacy, finance, and other leaders to drive operational alignment.

• Education and Development: Mentor staff, provide training and precept pharmacy learners. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Baccalaureate degree or PharmD from an accredited school of pharmacy.

Skills: Strong business acumen with experience in financial management and performance optimization. Expertise in supply chain management, centralized operations, and 340B compliance.

Years of Experience: 5 years

License: Eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in Ohio and Michigan.

Education: Master’s degree in pharmacy administration, healthcare administration, or business.

Skills: Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other quality improvement methodologies.
