Summary:

  • Reports to North American Innovative Medicine Chief Strategic Customer Officer and sits on the Strategic Customer Group (SCG) leadership team.

  • Responsible for the daily management and strategic leadership for entire US Pharm portfolio which covers multiple therapeutic areas inclusive of Immunology, Oncology, Neuroscience, and Pulmonary Hypertension, as well as Established Products.

  • Provides leadership for the following functions within the Pharmaceutical Strategic Customer Group: Ecosystem Strategy; Trade Channel Strategy & Operations; Pharmacy Account Management; Customer Marketing Solutions; Healthcare Quality Strategy; SCG Learning & Development.

The team organizations are responsible for the following:

Ecosystem Strategy

  • Conceptualize, align, create and implement strategies to address ecosystem-wide friction points to protect patient access to NA IM current and future therapeutics and vaccines. For example, these friction points include employer and payer risk management with respect to covering novel cell and gene therapies or disruption to channel economics driven by pipeline changes and the evolving policy environment.

  • Synthesize external thought leader perspectives to provide insights on future ecosystem developments; forecast changes to the entire healthcare ecosystem and how that impacts patient access to our therapies and what NA IM should do to preserve patient access as well as our competitiveness. Align perspectives across key NA IM functional areas to synthesize one voice on these forecasts/recommendations. Deliver these recommendations to NA IM functions including VAP, Policy, and Brand teams.

Trade Strategy

  • Create new distribution infrastructure by partnering with current and new stakeholders for new launches

  • Manage inventory with all wholesalers, downstream customers; provide executive updates during quarterly close and key forecasting activities (BP, JU, NU).

  • Implement distribution of product agreements across the portfolio and manage the business to ensure product flow is aligned to patient demand by engaging stakeholder ecosystem throughout the product lifecycle

  • Develop, execute, and manage purchase contracts with wholesalers, pharmacy and other customers to support profitable access to all products

  • Ensure that product from all Janssen brands moving smoothly to support marketplace demand across distributors direct ship locations. Triage and crisis manage any supply issues to ensure patient continuity of therapy and high customer satisfaction and appropriate internal/field communication.

Channel Strategy

  • Lead team that develops and delivers Channel Strategy and Delivery Model Design for new products and brands that are adjusting go to market models

  • Team partners closely with Brand, PECS, and VAP team to evaluate channel selection, channel partner selection, definition of investment requirements, market entry strategies, FFS strategies and end to end accountability to ensure compliance, effective and efficient execution.

  • Manage complexity and ambiguity of developing distribution strategies for launching products with transformational and new therapies

Customer Marketing Programs

  • Leads a team that owns patient outcomes initiatives that are deployed with Integrated Delivery Networks, Payers and Supergroups. These programs are developed in close partnership within the Integreated Health System Strategy Teaming framework on the Institutional Provider side and with the priority National accounts on the Payer side. Strategies are aligned with the brand strategy and the Winning Ambition and are developed in close collaboration with many functional partners across the NA IM organization

  • Create compliant tools that can be used to support these strategies for implementation by customers. Build the tools with legal and compliance input throughout the process. Ensure that critical stakeholders are enrolled throughout the process. Secure final approvals for customer rollout. Define how tools can be used across multiple customers vs. custom approach.

  • Create implementation guide for tools and training for associated field teams

  • Leads team of field-based quality and workflow experts deployed in field gain and share back health system insight on operational issues related to highly complex products

  • Provide expert guidance regarding health system workflow and operations as an internal consultant for strategic initiatives like telehealth; gene therapy deployment; health system EHR programs

Pharmacy Account Management

  • Manage team of national account managers in close collaboration with Strategic Account Management: National Accounts team in shared national accounts

  • Partner with Specialty Pharmacies to support timely first fill and optimal patient experience throughout journey

  • Provide voice of pharmacy service marketplace to PECS and Brand teams. Deliver RFI, RPFs and negotiate and execute agreements with Pharmacies for data and wide range of patient support services

Learning & Development

  • Leads SCG Learning & Development function to increase internal market access capabilities and competencies

  • Develops strategic plan and implements training on the pharmaceutical ecosystem across SCG organization for all access channels.

  • Create strategy and execute programming to support US Market Access career development

Quality Strategy

Deliver value-based care strategic input and customer engagements aligned to quality

  • Drive internal alignment on requirements and strategy to GAIN / RETAIN pathway placements

  • Coordinate pathways commercial strategy with evidence strategy and engagement strategy

  • Monitor broad pathway developer landscape and decision drivers and the interplay with value-based payment

  • MSSP: Develop action plan for Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and other Accountable Care Organization (ACO) models

  • Shape value-based payment models to advance patient access to innovative medicines and mitigate risk value based payment models at the macro level

Key Leadership Responsibilities

  • Partnership with the other SCG Leaders and functions to develop market leading strategies and above-industry level execution

  • Ensures leadership (GPAC, NA and WW Chair and Presidents) and key stakeholder alignment to trade strategies and effective execution of launch plans for new products/indications.

  • Has a direct contribution to the development of business strategies and functional expertise to achieve business plan implementation objectives and results

  • Recruits, develops and retains high performance talent and develop bench strength for the organization

  • Manages department budgets related to staffing, discretionary spend, charge outs and external contractors to lower the overall cost to serve

  • Ensures personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health Care Compliance

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Advanced business degree (MBA) preferred

  • 15 or more years of overall work experience is required, with a minimum of 7 years in the pharmaceutical / healthcare industry

  • Previous people management experience is required with proven track record of developing talent

  • Previous experience in an analytical function (such as finance, marketing, strategic analysis or related analytical role) is highly preferred

  • Deep understanding of the U.S. healthcare market, including legal and compliance requirements required; Sound knowledge of the healthcare industry and trends and customer dynamics required

  • Experience in the one or more of the following required: account management, sales management, finance, healthcare consulting, or Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN)

  • Experience working effectively and leading and influencing in multiple stakeholder environments required

  • Experience with partnering with legal on business issues required

  • Experience working in ambiguous environment; ability to shape insights into strategy and execution required

  • Strong understanding of reimbursement / payment models and customer structures preferred

  • Ability to convey information with clarity and directness required
