Amazon Intermodal is looking for a Senior Program Manager with a strong delivery record and proven project management experience to own strategic, tactical, cross-functional and technology projects and programs across multiple verticals. This role requires scoping and creating project plans, developing processes, coordinating and driving execution, and communicating to senior management on status, risks and process/product changes. Cross-team coordination, project management and executive presentation skills are essential. The ideal candidate will leverage extensive project management experience, combined with deep analytical capabilities and a keen sense of innovation, to lead complex projects from conception to completion. This role will be responsible for Amazon Intermodal Volume Planning, focusing on optimizing the intermodal network to drive volume growth for a $1B+ business.

Amazon Intermodal (AZIM) is key to Amazon’s internal transportation supply mix and is our preferred mode of transportation when we favor cost and sustainability over speed for long-haul (> 500miles) shipments. In 2018, Amazon embarked on their 1P (AZIM) strategy to increase capacity and reduce cost, and since then have scaled to be the 4th largest intermodal carrier in NA. The Senior Program Manager of AZIM Volume Planning will lead capacity planning related initiatives.

The Amazon Intermodal team is experiencing rapid growth and is looking for a talented, driven, curious and highly analytical executive, with an appetite for driving change at a large scale. The successful candidate will have strong program management, analytical and communication skills. They will be able to deliver results at both a strategic and tactical level across all aspects of the business. They will have strong verbal and written communication skills and work effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

Key job responsibilities

  • Analyze weekly volume trends and conduct root cause analysis to undercover defects and drive growth and efficiency.

  • Work with cross functional teams to implement and automate forecasting accuracy processes.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate program risks, establish mechanisms preventing them from evolving into reoccurring business problems.

  • Regularly communicate with senior managers, business leaders, and other stakeholders to support key business initiatives.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee KPI reporting for a program portfolio, ensuring clear visibility of milestones and project performance.

  • Work autonomously in an ambiguous environment seeking to understand business problems and scaling limitations.

  • Effectively communicate with external customers to de-escalate problems and create process solutions to prevent the same problem from occurring twice.

  • Partner with and influence cross functional teams to drive KPI favorability.

  • Set clear objectives for programs, leveraging data analytics to drive improvements and achieve metrics.

  • Navigate and resolve ambiguities in business scenarios, applying creative problem-solving skills.

  • Bridge gaps in team dynamics, processes, and systems, preventing common project pitfalls.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of program or project management experience

  • 5+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Bachelor's degree, or Bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, engineering, finance or related technical or quantitative field

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., multiple criteria lookups, nested logical/IF formulas, data cleansing, array formulas, etc.) and SQL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or MBA in business, operations, human resources, adult education, organizational development, instructional design or related field

  • 7+ years of defining and executing against program timeline & requirements experience

  • 7+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience

  • Experience owning stakeholder management, effectively communicating with senior leaders at Fortune 500 companies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
