State of Massachusetts Occupational Therapist II - Recovery from Addictions Program in Taunton, Massachusetts

The Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP), operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH), is seeking self-motivated Occupational Therapists. Incumbents of this position will work in collaboration with the Clinical Director, the Occupational Therapy Supervisor will facilitate the delivery of rehabilitation services that is person-centered, recovery-based, and clinically driven, and establish programs that are evidence-based using best practice evaluations and treatments. As a member of the Rehabilitation Clinical Leadership Team, the Supervisor must have a clear understanding of the program's operational and administrative needs. The Occupational Therapy Supervisor will also evaluate patients’ needs for Occupational Therapy/Rehabilitation Services, design and provide treatment as indicated. The basic purpose of this work is to provide Occupational Therapy services to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients with mental or emotional disabilities or disorders. _Work Schedule_: The selected candidate(s) will work 40 hours per week from 8:30AM - 5:00PM. The days off are Sunday and Saturday. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive)_: · Evaluates patients’ needs for therapy through interviews, direct observations, review of medical records and by conducting functional assessments to determine patient’s functional skills levels. · Develops and implements treatment plans, in conjunction with Treatment Team, for patients that identify specific treatment modalities based upon functional assessment findings to ensure clinically appropriate modalities are included in the Master Treatment Plan. · Provide clinical and operational oversight of rehabilitation services treatment schedule for assigned units and treatment locations, ensuring an engaging treatment focused milieu. Make staffing assignments that meet the clinical and operational needs of the Rehabilitation Program, Joint Commission standards, and CMS standards of care. · Provide direct and indirect supervision of Rehab Counselors, interns, etc. to ensure effective delivery of services and compliance with agency programs and policy. · Oversee patient’s evaluations and at times, evaluates patients’ need for therapy through interviews, direct observations, review of medical records and by conducting functional assessments to determine patient’s functional skills levels for assigned units. · Provide supervision, clinical oversight, and may develop, as needed, Occupational/Rehabilitation treatment plans in conjunction with the Treatment Team to ensure clinically appropriate modalities are included in the Recovery based Master Treatment Plan based on the functional assessment findings, and the patients individual Recovery Goals. · Review and approve occupational therapy treatment plans prepared by subordinates. · As assigned, conduct individual/group treatment, and milieu activities, both in treatment site locations, and on unit. · Supervise and may provide documentation of patients’ progress, and records result of assessments within the guidelines as mandated by accrediting bodies and billing agencies. Maintains statistics, keeps accurate billing logs, and tacks patients’ attendance in programs as assigned. · Ensure rehabilitation staff competences by providing audits of care, supervision, trainings, consultation, recommend training needs, and scheduling staff to participate in trainings to maintain competencies in rehabilitation treatment services provided. · Interview candidates for employment and make recommendations concerning the hiring, promotion, etc. of agency staff. (As assigned). · Actively participate in assigned committees, participate in rehabilitation data collection/fact findings, prepare reports, and communicate report findings both written and verbally to the Clinical Director. · Perform related duties such as maintaining records; ordering equipment, materials and supplies; attending meetings and in-service training programs and providing on-the-job training to staff and interns. · Recommend the establishment or revision of policies, procedures, and standards governing the unit. Facilitates psycho-educational and recovery-based groups. _Required Qualifications_: · Knowledge of substance use and treatment systems and mental health. · Ability to motivate clients. · Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and perform administrative duties for the Rehabilitation Department. · Knowledge of evidence based and best practice theory, principles, treatment methods, techniques, and procedures, of occupational therapy and rehabilitation. · Ability to utilize and administer assessment tools needed to accurately assess patient’s functional skills needed for a continuum of care both for in-patient rehabilitation and treatment, as well as discharge planning. · Ability to communicate effectively with patients receiving services, supervisor, peers, subordinates, and other treatment team providers. · Ability to negotiate/mediate/diffuse conflict. · Demonstrated ability to exercise effective/sound judgment and sensitivity to changing needs and situations. _Program Requirements_: * Minimum of one (1) year experience working with clients with primary substance use disorders; knowledge of substance use and treatment systems. _Preferred Qualifications_: * Ability to demonstrate a positive, non-judgmental, and accepting attitude toward individuals with substance use disorders. * Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior attention to detail. * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. _About the Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP)_: _ The Department of Mental Health (DMH) in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH) Bureau of Substance Addiction Services operates a statewide Recovery from Addictions Program (RAP) for individuals civilly committed by the courts for substance use treatment for up to 90 days (“Section 35 commitment”). The program model will provide acute detoxification and early clinical stabilization services as we help clients develop community-based linkages to outpatient supports and substance use disorder treatment providers. The individuals treated within this program will be linked upon discharge to a range of services within the DPH continuum of care for substance use conditions. RAP provides administrative, medical, clinical, and non-clinical services.
