BluePearl Veterinary Technician - Surgery in Tampa, Florida

BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician to join our single specialty Town N Country Surgery Team!

You will have the opportunity to work with our amazing Board-Certified Surgeon. Most of our cases are orthopedics, soft tissue, neurological, and more! There is no ER service, no weekend hours, and we are generally closed for the 6 major holidays each year. If you're interested in using the newest innovative anesthetic protocols and anesthetic management, then this is the place for you! 

A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on-call schedule is required once training has been completed.

Pay: $20 - $40 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our CareerTrax leveling system.

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:

  • Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.

  • Ability to take the patient through the entire procedure from start to finish:

  • Pre-op: Comfortable with intubation, induction, post-operative diagnostics, and prepping patients for surgery

  • Peri-Op: Monitoring Anesthesia and ability to troubleshoot

  • Post- Op: Hospitalization care, radiographs, pain management, extubating, fluid therapy

  • Comfortable with assessing patients, and collecting vitals

  • Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.

  • Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).

  • Able to set up intravenous fluids.

  • Administers subcutaneous fluids.

  • Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.

  • Able to disconnect and connectpatientsfrom intravenous fluids aseptically.

  • Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.

  • Client communication withpatient histories, care instructions, lab results, patient updates.
