Description Summary Provide engineering support for the machines and facilities involved in the prepreg manufacturing process as assigned. Troubleshooting and solving operational problems as they arise, develop and maintain the key operational characteristics of the machinery and facility. Assist, provide and implement engineering solutions to maintenance and safety related issues as assigned. Assist with process, machine and automation related improvements to increase efficiency and reliability. This will be a paid internship at the rate of $27.50 per hour. Duties and Responsibilities Position reports directly to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering or designee. Follow Toray Safety Procedures, PPE Requirements, Confidentiality Requirements and Work Instructions as applicable. Provide engineering support to MFG Engineers, Engineering technicians, Project Engineering as directed. Work with the Project Engineering team to ensure projects are constructed and completed per design and schedule. Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems in a limited amount of time. Assist with analyzing test results and production data using statistical techniques to determine normal and abnormal data. Manage projects as assigned. Demonstrate sound engineering judgement in the design and implementation of projects. Generate, amend or revise documentation as requested/ required. Generate and collect data by performing various tests and tasks and interpret and explain test data and results to management as required. Update status logs of active projects, communicate lists to management as required. Skills and Specifications Fundamental understanding of mechanical concepts such as tensions, torque, friction, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics required. Ability to utilize/operate a computer, peripheral equipment and appropriate software, such as Microsoft Office applications including advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and statistical analysis programs. Ability to use software such as Solid Works to add or make revisions on mechanical and architectural drawings. Strong verbal and written communication skills needed. Ability to communicate to a variety of audiences. Ability to set priorities. Ability to self-motivate and take initiative. Ability to develop close working relationships, with internal and external staff/ customers. Ability to use small hand tools safely. Education and Qualifications Enrollment in a ABET Accredited Engineering Program. Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Disciplines preferred. Personal computer experience in Microsoft applications such as Excel, Access and Word, and mechanical drawing software such as Solid Works, required. This position involves working with technologies and information which are subject to U.S. export control regulations. Under these regulations, Toray CMA must review certain candidate information including citizenship, basis of United States work authorization and country of origin. This information would be used for export control screening purposes only. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job tasks are usually performed in an office/manufacturing environment. Position requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand English at a level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities. Position occasionally requires the ability to make quick decisions related to prepreg process issues. Ability to set priorities. Ability to utilize interpersonal and teamwork skills. Ability to perform advanced mathematical computations such as statistics, differential calculus, integral calculus, etc. Ability to give complete directions and to understand and apply work specifications in the completion of work tasks.
