Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Sam's Club Technology is looking for a talented backend developer to join its Event Horizon team as a Senior Software Engineer. Event Horizon is an internal eventing/messaging platform that is used to connect engineering teams across the organization via real-time event streaming. It is the central nervous system for Sam's Club and an integral part of our company's infrastructure.

What you'll do:

Event Horizon team is responsible for all development, maintenance, and support of the platform. Our engineers are highly skilled problem-solvers who excel with cloud-native development, distributed systems, and software architecture. Most Event Horizon components are written in Go, though our team also builds applications, libraries, and services using other core languages, so polyglots are very welcome. We also leverage many open-source technologies (e.g. Nats, Kubernetes, MySQL, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, and Jaeger) to ensure our product is of the highest possible quality.

Candidates in this role will have the following core responsibilities:

• Day-to-day software development of platform components (including applications, libraries, and microservices) in an agile setting

• Participating in architectural and product-related discussions

• Platform maintenance (e.g. installations and upgrades)

• Support work (assisting our technical partners with their support questions)

What you'll bring:

• Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Computer Science (or related field) with 3+ years of professional development experience

• Strong professional experience with at least one major programming language (e.g. Java, Python, Go).

• Strong inclination towards quality-driven software development, including experience writing test cases, troubleshooting problems, and automating workflows

• Solid knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals (e.g. data structures, computational complexity, caching strategies, etc.)

• Ability to operate both independently and as part of a larger development team

• Familiarity with standard software development tools (e.g. git, shell scripting, IDEs/text editors, etc.)

Desired (Optional) Skills & Experience

• Experience working in a containerized environment (e.g. Docker / Kubernetes / Helm)

• Familiarity with the construction and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, Looper, Concord, Github Actions, ArgoCD, etc.)

• Previous experience with messaging/eventing systems (e.g. Nats, Kafka, Azure EventHub, Google Pub/Sub, etc.)

• Development experience with at least one major cloud provider (preferably Azure or GCP)

• Previous experience with data engineering and relevant tools (e.g. Spark, Databricks)

• Experience with common observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry, etc.)

• Experience with popular web development technologies (e.g. React.js)

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00
