JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut School of Law is searching for an Assistant Dean of Admissions to provide strategic and visionary leadership, direction, and administration of the Law School’s Office of Admissions. The Assistant Dean is responsible for shaping the Law School’s J.D. admissions procedures and policies to attract, evaluate, and select a diverse and academically accomplished student population, aligning these with the mission and values of the UConn School of Law, while actively contributing to the development of these values. With a comprehensive understanding of the J.D. admissions landscape, they develop and execute effective strategies and programs to achieve enrollment management goals and advance the Law School’s strategic priorities. This position reports to the Dean of the Law School.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements comprehensive recruitment strategies, effectively driving the strategic development and use of enrollment data related to student demographics, pricing, and economic trends.

  • Ensures the innovative application of analytics to maintain a competitive edge.

  • Strategically manages scholarships and financial aid offers, ensuring alignment with enrollment goals and enhancing the Law School’s appeal to candidates.

  • Optimizes enrollment metrics while identifying and implementing high-impact practices.

  • Reviews application files, screens applicants for admission and makes final admission recommendations based on a holistic review of academic records, LSAT scores, personal statements, letters of recommendation, and all other materials contained in each application.

  • Collaborate with the Faculty Admissions Committee to achieve enrollment management goals.

  • Advises and counsels prospective and admitted students.

  • Serves as a key external representative for both the Law School and the broader University, strategically engaging with prospective students, academic partners, and other universities to enhance visibility, foster collaborative relationships, and advance recruitment and partnership initiatives.

  • Oversees the creation of admissions and recruitment marketing materials and communications.

  • Coordinates virtual and in-person open house programs and other outreach/recruiting activities.

  • Maintains and prepares statistical data for institutional reports such as ABA AQ, U.S. News & World Report, and other internal admissions data requests.

  • Leads the Office of Admissions team including hiring, assigning, and reviewing tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations for departmental personnel.

  • Manages the overall operation of the Office of Admissions including its budget within broad institutional guidelines.

  • Engages in seasonal travel and work during evening and weekend hours.

  • Serves as a member of the Dean’s Senior Management and Reporting Team and collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to advance institutional goals.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • J.D. degree or Master’s degree in a related field.

  • At least 5 years of experience in university admissions, enrollment management, or other relevant professional experience.

  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of enrollment management principles and the programs that support a complex student information system.

  • Demonstrated skill in data management and analysis and report preparation.

  • Experience managing budgets and scholarship funds.

  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in law school admissions.

  • Strong understanding of legal education trends and the admissions landscape.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and

educational backgrounds.

  • Experience or familiarity with the Law School Admissions Council’s Unite CRM.

  • Experience or familiarity with Concur travel and expense management system.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of June 13, 2025. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
