Stony Brook University, Department of Linguistics, seeks a full-time Lecturer (one year appointment, non-tenure track) to teach undergraduates in TESOL beginning Sept 1, 2024 through Aug 31, 2025.
Responsibilities will include:
* Prepare and deliver face-to-face and hybrid instruction of TESOL teaching methods courses to undergraduate and graduate TESOL students at Stony Brook University
* Prepare and deliver face-to-face and hybrid instruction of other TESOL courses to undergraduate and graduate TESOL students at Stony Brook University
* Teach 3 TESOL courses per semester, such as TESOL Methods (2 sections of the same course per semester) and one of the following: Bilingualism, or Second Language Acquisition. Teaching assignments are negotiated with Department Chair or TESOL program coordinator
* Foster active learning and inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom
* Maintain class records, evaluate student coursework, hold office hours and meet with students, respond/attend to course-related questions from students
* Contribute to TESOL course curriculum planning for Stony Brook University
* Occasionally participate in and prepare for department events and activities to support students, such as program orientations, meet and greets, and extracurricular professional development.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited institution in a discipline related to education, linguistics, language instruction, or equivalent. Demonstrated understanding of TESOL teaching methodologies. ENL classroom experience through personal teaching history and/or academic experience. Eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three to five years of successful experience teaching ENL learners in a K-12 setting. NYS Certification in TESOL. Knowledge of language acquisition and best practices in second language pedagogy. Proficient in use of learning technologies for effective teaching. Demonstrated efforts toward ongoing professional development.
