So it is our pleasure to announce that we are currently seeking a full-time candidate for the role of Housekeeping-Maintenance Worker to join our team!

By ICL definition, under the direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and/or the relief Supervisor, a Housekeeping-Maintenance Worker (HK-MW) is someone responsible for performing a variety of routine trade, labor, and housekeeping tasks that require medium physical effort, related to the work site: housekeeping, groundskeeping, sanitation, cleaning, and safety.

MIN. ROLE REQUIREMENTS & PREFERENCES:

  • Available 5 Days Min. b/w Monday to Sunday, with options for O.T. – Shift: Days & Hours TBD

  • Location: Staten Island, NY 10305 – S.I. Residents preferred

  • EDU: No Education Required + 2 years of housekeeping and trade/labor experience – preferably in a shelter setting

  • NYS Food Handler License/Certificate training or OSHA 30 Certified (https://www.oshaeducationcenter.com/images/infographic/osha-30-training.jpg) training preferred

  • VALID Driver’s License Photo ID – NY, NJ, PA, or CT State preferred

  • Proper attire at all times – this includes work pants, boots, and outer/inner-wear with the ICL company logo (provided after training)

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic aka Math

  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and stretch for long periods

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions

  • Ability to follow rules and procedures regarding maintenance and carpentry

  • Knowledge of maintenance and cleaning products, standards, and equipment usage

  • Knowledge of safety and basic information related to trade, installation, and laborer work

  • Ability to work in a setting with individuals with mental illness and/or behavioral disorders

  • Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor, including lifting objects weighing up to 60+ lbs

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, and conveying skills – bi-lingual is a plus but not mandatory

  • Ability to follow all safety guidelines in accordance with the performance of the tasks mentioned below...

HOUSEKEEPING TASKS:

  • Set up equipment in all assigned areas: conference, dining rooms, etc.

  • Move furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning and care functions

  • Using manual and/or mechanical equipment to dust and polish metal lights and fixtures

  • Using manual and/or mechanical equipment to shampoo, steam, clean, and change curtains, carpets, and drapes

  • Using appropriate safety equipment such as rolling ladders and safety scaffolds to clean ceiling fans at high places

  • Using manual and/or mechanical equipment and detergents to scrub and clean all bathroom areas: sinks, urinals, toilets, etc.

  • Using manual and/or mechanical equipment to remove hazardous articles that may be on floors, furniture, and equipment and place them in designated receptacles or in appropriate location

  • Using manual and/or mechanical equipment to wash, strip, steam, vacuum, polish, and wax wooden or tile floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, windows, furniture, etc. for all areas

  • Upkeep an overall attractive and sanitary environment

MAINTENANCE TASKS:

  • Tool Inventory – maintain and ensure all tools are returned to the site at the end of each workday

  • Carpentry – build and perform routine installments, maintenance, replacement, and repairs of metal, slate, shingles, roofs, doors, stairs, railings, floors, gates, ceilings, furniture, locks, bookcases, shelves, tables, signs, modular furniture, cabinets, countertops, wood equipment, and other fixtures including platforms and temporary staging, windows: install blinds and door hardware

  • Renovation – assists with the remodeling of offices and apartments: repair plaster and drywall, strips, paints or stains woodwork, prepare surfaces for the painting of interior and exterior building structures, fixtures, and equipment

  • Locksmith – open locks when keys are not readily available

  • Plumbing – perform routine installments, maintenance, replacement, and repairs of plumbing systems and fixtures such as damaged steam valves, faucets, sinks, toilets, and leaking pipes: insulate steam lines, thermostats, and water heaters while locating and unplugging stoppages using plungers, snakes, etc.

  • Electrical – perform routine installments, maintenance, replacement, and repairs of electrical equipment overhead door motors, electric ranges, lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, and other appliances; running and repairing electrical cables and wires

  • Heat / Water – operate and maintain equipment by replacing parts, such as filters and pumps; clean equipment and adjust components, such as thermostats, and check the oil level in storage tanks

  • Masonry – perform routine installments, maintenance, replacement, and repairs of such as tiles and carpets as necessary

MINOR / MISC. TASKS:

  • Groundskeeping – performs outside maintenance duties such as lawn mowing, bush trimming, snow removal, etc. as needed

  • Moving – responsibly move, load, and unload useable and/or unusable furniture, equipment, supplies, and client belongings onto trucks for transport

  • Vehicles – perform routine installments, maintenance, replacement, and repairs such as changing a flat tire, maintaining appropriate fluid levels, and ensuring the interiors and exteriors of vehicles are clean.

  • Administrative – submit docs./paperwork promptly at the end of each workday; follow the work request and other departmental tracking systems; follow already established procedures in place

  • Perform other job-related tasks as assigned in an organized and clean manner
