This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.

As a Solutions Architect, you will be responsible for strategic planning and advanced IT system design, architecture, and technology for MNIT DOC information systems, sets standards and guidelines for design activities, selects specific technologies to meet business needs, and guides strategic and long-range planning for information systems. The incumbent serves as the chief architect for MNIT DOC IT solutions, catering to diverse users across multiple platforms such as commercial off-the-shelf software, platform as a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS), Cloud computing, AI technologies, and hardware. This position actively participates in new and existing technology projects to help select and design systems to meet business needs.

This position works with a cross functional team of architects to establish technology road maps for MNIT DOC that lay out continuous improvement opportunities that align with business needs and maintain IT industry standards.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:

Position requires a minimum of six (6) years of experience in a progressive technical role, performing enterprise architecture work.

Experience must include:

  • Knowledge of architect standards and conventions such as TOGAF, ISO/IEC, Zachman, Federal Enterprise Architecture, etc.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • In-depth understanding of business processes and IT strategy alignment.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A master’s degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor’s degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate’s degree substitutes for one (1) year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge on corrections or judicial systems.

  • Track record in emerging technologies such as platform as a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS), Cloud computing, AI technologies to drive innovation.

  • Extensive experience with IT infrastructure, cloud computing, and solutions development.

  • Proficiency in utilizing standard technologies and platforms to reduce IT complexity.

  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
