The Community and Economic Development team at SEH focuses on helping communities become the places where businesses thrive and people live their best lives. Sr Mechanical Engineer Why you'll love SEH: * Collaborate on amazing projects of varying size and complexity that positively impact communities * Being 100% employee-owned means we all share in the company's success * Career development through continued education, licensure/certification, skills, and technical training * Work arrangements that promote work/life balance * Flexible holidays enable individuals to tailor their festivities * Paid Family Leave provides time to care for loved ones, whether family by birth or family by choice This Opportunity: * Develop grants and funding strategy for public infrastructure projects, on behalf of clients and in collaboration with SEH's Planning team and other SEH practice groups. * Prepare high-quality outcomes-driven funding applications (local, state and federal). * Serve as Project Manager for grant assistance contracts; manage scope, schedule and budget. * Assist municipal clients with the administration of successfully funded projects. * Organize and track projects requiring funding, as well as local, state, federal funding programs. * Support business development activities with funding assessment and opportunities. * Demonstrate general knowledge of federal policy and grant guidelines. * Prepare community plans (i.e., comprehensive plans, strategic plans, and redevelopment plans), economic development tools and work with governmental agencies to implement recommendations from the plan. * Lead public engagement exercises. * Research, collect, verify, and analyze data from various sources for use in planning documents. * Prepare and present land use planning documents, as well as economic development, environmental and transportation planning reports. Essential Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in urban planning or related field * Residency in Minnesota or surrounding state (i.e., Iowa) * Demonstrated experience in economic development, municipal project funding/grant writing or urban/regional planning * Demonstrated ability to effectively and concisely communicate and present information to clients and internal teams * Demonstrated success in Municipal Grant Funding Writing and Admin stration * Demonstrated understanding of State(s) Funding/Agencies processes and requirements * Development of agendas, meeting materials, and talking points in preparation for meetings. * Development of high-quality presentations that effectively communicate key objectives and facilitate discussion across multiple stakeholders. * Ability to work well with multiple deadlines and flexibility to adapt to unanticipated client requests for grant development support. * Participation in internal and external grants management-related training. * Ability to travel as needed for team meetings, client consultations, on-site inspections/visits, etc. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications: * Five (5) years of experience in urban/regional planning, economic development, or municipal project funding/grant writing * Experience administering municipal land use, zoning and subdivision ordinances for communities (i.e., evaluation of rezoning applications, ordinance amendments, site plans review, and general development review). * Experienced in preparing and delivering presentations to potential clients, partners, and proposal reviewers, showcasing the value and impact of engineering solutions for community development. * Proficient in tracking and reporting on application progress and outcomes using spreadsheets and Hubspot, ensuring accuracy and consistency of data and documentation. * Understanding of funding agency evaluation criteria and ability to tailor engineering proposals to highlight technical, social, and environmental benefits. * Familiar with grant administration and compliance, including budgeting, reporting, and auditing, and knowledgeable in planning, zoning, land use, and comprehensive planning. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team, providing input on funding opportunities and strategies, with strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail * Preference given to candidates residing in the St. Paul / Minneapolis Metro Area Who We Are Better Places. Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $83,000 and $115,000 based on skill set and experience.
