As the Director of Equity and Inclusion, you will provide leadership and direction to the Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Operations, in conjunction with the Deputy Commissioner of Agency Effectiveness, senior leaders, division directors and staff to strategically plan for and obtain legislative, stakeholder, and organizational support for changes to promote access and more equitable outcomes for ethnically and culturally-diverse communities, American Indian communities, people with disabilities, and other communities that experience health inequities. DHS Equity Directors’ approach is modeled after the Government Alliance on Racial Equity and includes the principle of equity work with a racial equity lens.

This position will also be responsible for the operations’ internal equity agenda. The incumbent will lead staff and directors at all levels to assess equity and inclusion awareness/capacity, identify activities to build equity and inclusion, and implement those activities at all levels within Operations.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

  • Foster effective partnerships with Agency Effectiveness, Communications and Relations, General Counsel’s Office, and Office of the Chief of Staff senior leaders, division directors, managers and staff to strategically plan for changes in Department operations and support functions provided to business administrations to promote access and more equitable outcomes for the internal workforce and the people we serve.

  • Closely collaborate with other Equity Directors across other administrations.

  • Guide the work of the Operations Equity Committee as described in the charter and its eight business area equity teams to ensure equity is normalized within and across actions (policies, practices, procedures, rules, budget, and decision-making) of the business areas.

  • Mitigate actions that could result in harm and inequities and to advance an organizational culture that is equitable and inclusive for the internal workforce and the people DHS serves.

  • Lead the measurement, tracking, and reporting of Operations’ progress on equity-related goals.

  • Build the capacity of staff and managers to collaborate with stakeholders and promote equity work.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Consultant

Three (3) years of specialized professional experience administering a DEI/Antiracism program within an organization at the policy level demonstrating the following:

  • Broad knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, antiracism and change management principles.

  • Human relations skills, manage programs, staff, budgets, and processes.

  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and methodologies to lead and/or assist teams in continuously analyzing, improving, and monitoring processes over time.

  • Understanding of theory and practices of equity and antiracism analysis.

  • Experience drafting policy and training others on analyzing policy through an equity lens.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Consultant Senior

Four (4) years of specialized professional experience administering a DEI/Antiracism program within an organization at the policy level demonstrating the following:

  • Broad knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, antiracism and change management principles.

  • Human relations skills, manage programs, staff, budgets, and processes.

  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and methodologies to lead and/or assist teams in continuously analyzing, improving, and monitoring processes over time.

  • Understanding of theory and practices of equity and antiracism analysis.

  • Experience drafting policy and training others on analyzing policy through an equity lens.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the legislative process.

  • Organizational management and continuous improvement skills to track and measure desired outcomes.

  • Experience measuring effective of trainings and other initiatives.

  • Project leadership experience to lead meetings and provide clear direction to program staff.

  • Strong human relations and communication skills; communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing; respond openly to requests and concerns and simplify technical information for non-specialist understanding.

  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
