Modality: Traditional Face-to-Face Class Dates/Times: MWF 11:35am-12:25pm Fall 2024 Pre-Written Course: No Total Compensation: $1,000 per Credit # of Credits: Dependent on Enrollment Course Description: Musicianship III MUS 303 Musicianship III 3 credits Students learn to write in the contrapuntal style of the 18th century. Chromatic harmonies and a study of classical period forms are also included in the course. Dictation and keyboard harmony are continued. (Offered every fall. Prerequisite: MUS 204 or equivalent.) Program/College: The Music BA at CSP empowers musicians to strive toward concentrated degrees depending on their instrumental and musical interests. Degree tracks include performance, music theory and composition, and music history. Students who complete the program will be prepared for graduate work in music and employment in musical roles as performers, composers, and private teachers. Individual lessons on the standard orchestral and band instruments and voice stress proper tone production, phrasing, and style. Special techniques unique to the instrument are studied. The material covered includes standard works for the instrument. All lessons include studio classes scheduled throughout the term as lab time. (Offered every semester. Prerequisites: approval and placement by instructor. Private lesson fee.) Course Instruction Responsibilities: Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses. Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support. Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within five business days of the assessments' due dates. Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday). Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education Required: Completion of a master's degree from an accredited institution. Education Preferred: A doctorate of music from an accredited institution, plus professional achievement that provides a depth of knowledge in the field to include evidence of a professional level of accomplishment in music. Experience Required: At least one year of college-level teaching. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences, demonstrate an ability and motivation to work with diverse populations in a professional and personable manner, demonstrate an ability to anticipate and respond to new trends in the discipline with new curriculum and teaching practices. Experience Preferred: Three or more years of college-level teaching, at least one of which is teaching advanced college theory (chromatic harmony and classical forms).
