CITY OF ST GEORGE Administrative Professional - Data Collection and Warehouse in ST GEORGE, Utah
Position Summary
Assists the Energy Inventory Specialist with receiving and ordering of Energy Services material to ensure
proper stocking levels according to established guidelines and maintains order in the Power yard. Reads and
records water and electric data readings along a prescribed route to initiate billings for utility customers of
the City of St. George and assists with connecting and disconnecting power from customer meters. Spot-
checks meter readings for high/low readings, and identifies and reports meter equipment problems to the
Energy Usage Analyst. Makes field evaluations of potential problems with electrical and water meters and
feeders on the system.

• Orders, receives, stores, issues, and inventories Energy Services material, tools, and supplies; submits
requisitions and purchase orders for supplies needed for Energy Warehouse; monitors delivery status.
• Receives incoming orders and supplies. Ensures new parts, supplies, and components are included in
inventory as quickly as possible.
• Inspects quantity and quality of delivered goods against prescribed specifications for acceptance or
rejection.
• Monitors and maintains inventory levels through inventory control models and formulas programmed
in an automated inventory management system; maintains a computerized database of all current
inventory of supplies; enters data into a personal computer to issue, post, retrieve, and research
inventory supply data.
• Conducts periodic, special, and perpetual inventories of stock.
• Helps balance yearly/monthly inventory reconciliation. Tallies daily and periodic dollar value of
material and labor used for maintenance and repair of the Power System.
• Regularly checks warehouse forklifts for routine maintenance.
• Operates forklift for loading and unloading supplies and material.
• Delivers needed material to crew at jobsites.
• Locates and collects water and electric data on an assigned route. Follows directions from the Utilities
Department for connecting new customers and disconnecting service for customers moving out.
Records data and turns that into the City for proper recording.
• Reports broken glass, lids, or other meter defects such as stopped, broken, or leaking meters. Returns
and verifies data as needed.
• Meets with customers to help analyze any problems with data, locked gates, swimming pools, dogs or
hard to reach meters.
• Performs investigations, when assigned, concerning problems with consumption theft of power or
water. Watches for illegal activities regarding meters, etc., and reports these illegal activities to
Supervisor.
• Performs shut-off of utilities when directed by supervisor for non-payment of billings. Installs
tamperproof meter rings when necessary and replaces broken meters as needed.
• Assists Energy Usage analyst with meter audit and inspections program.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Moderately heavy physical effort; May have to bend and stoop for extended periods. May push, pull, or lift
up to 50 pounds. Heavy exposure to disagreeable elements such as heat, cold, rain, dampness, fumes, noise,
dogs, dust, grease, insects, and snakes. Must be able to identify, set up, fill out proper fo rms, and work in a
confined space condition at various times as outlined by City policy. Intermittent exposure to high stress as a
result of human behavior and meeting deadlines on a daily basis. Subject to work shifts with rotating
schedules including swing and/or graveyar shifts.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year of full time or two (2) years of part time related experience required. Work
experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Experience as Meter Reader
preferred.
Licenses and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be
obtained within 60 days of hire and be maintained throughout employment. Forklift certification must
be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Inventory management procedures, including computerized inventory records.
• Control procedures and methods with inventory systems.
• Security systems and OSHA regulations.
• EPA and Department of Environmental Quality Control regulations, and the safe handling and storage of
hazardous chemicals, materials, and waste.
• Safe work practices.
• Basic arithmetic calculations and computer skills.
Ability to:
• Perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Acquire and apply knowledge of City purchasing regulations and requirements within a six (6) month
period.
• Manage inventory, including verifying incoming and outgoing inventory; resolve inventory
discrepancies; and initiate special orders, warranty returns, broken parts, and other return items.
• Determine stocking needs.
• Maintain stock at efficient levels.
• Order and completing appropriate paperwork for needed stock.
• Receive stock.
• Move medium to heavy material and supplies, using forklift for heavier items.
• Input and maintain computer records.
• Reconcile shipment and deliveries with orders.
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with those contacted in course of work.
• Maintain inventory storage areas in clean and logical manner.
• Follow City policies.
• Learn to read all brands of electronic and dial meters, calculate consumption, make simple calculations
when necessary, and explain process to public consumers.
• Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to collect data.
• Learn the geography and street locations of the City.
• Perform data collecting duties under adverse traffic conditions and in a variety of weather conditions
with exposure to the elements.
• Move water meter lids when they become stuck, and overcome normal physical obstacles when they
prevent access to meters.
• Work around insects, reptiles, and animals that are confronted along the route.
• Refer citizens to appropriate customer service personnel for problem/complaint resolution.
• Observe meters to determine broken glass, lids, and problem with consumption or illegal activity
regarding meters.
• Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces to collect data, connect or disconnect power, or change
meter.
• Learn job-related material primarily through instruction and observation in an on-the-job training setting.
• Understand and follow instructions.
• Move debris, dirt, or other materials from around meter boxes as necessary.
• Work safely without presenting a threat to self or others.
• Complete assignments according to schedule.
• Establish and maintain effective working rel ations with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
