Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this grant-funded position coordinates donor centered activities in the Advancement Department under the direction of the Executive Director of Advancement (supervisor), which includes donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, donation management and tracking in donor management software.

  • Writes direct mail and electronic donor communications to include appeals, stewardship, cultivation, and impact. Assists department in gathering and organizing information for story bank, working with and interviewing students, teachers, and staff to create Advancement publications. Manages production of department materials with outside vendors.

  • Provides timely and accurate entry, creation of thank you letters, receipts and reporting in donor management system; assists co-worker to assure volume is handled within department policy guidelines. Records all donor interactions in donor management system.

  • Provides assistance to supervisor and guidance to project custodians during endowment funding process. Provides training to project custodians under the direction of supervisor. Assists supervisor with analysis of donor trends and fundraising results and creation of department goals. Schedules and leads campus tours and professional speaking opportunities to outside groups.

  • Engages in professional development to build knowledge of fundraising and philanthropy. Serves on the FSDB incident command team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising especially though collection of financial contributions given by individuals and foundations;

  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas: fundraising writing style, direct mail, electronic communications, advancement office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor record keeping;

  • Ability to show leadership capabilities;

  • Ability to have a high energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative;

  • Strong ability for verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively;

  • Ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development;

  • Ability to adhere to timelines to complete projects and resolve issues; Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Micro Soft Word and Excel as well as and knowledge of data base programs;

  • Ability to maintains confidentiality;

  • Ability to maintain a Valid State of Florida Driver's License and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy;

  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR;

  • Ability to obtain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24;

  • Ability to travel, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field or a high school diploma and professional experience in the applicable area of responsibility may be substituted at the rate of two years equivalent to one year of college.

  • Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.

Preferred

  • Three years professional experience in related field.

  • Skilled in creative writing

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language.

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

Hiring Salary Range:12 month position, $44,465.82 - $51,965.82 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm (at least 80 hours biweekly)
