Job Description:

About the Role:

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple food manufacturing sites. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. The Director will lead and guide the Plant based EHS Managers, foster a culture of safety, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

  • Provide guidance, training, and development opportunities to the EHS team to foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the enterprise.

  • Monitor and ensure EHS regulatory compliance and standards at federal, state and local levels within the Divisional area of responsibility.

  • Interpret and provide guidance on policies, legislation and documents related to environmental, health and safety and security initiatives to ensure compliance of all employees, equipment and the facility.

  • Support sites with strategic solutions that will support efforts to improve and maintain compliance as required.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs, including emergency response, hazard communication, and waste management initiatives.

  • Identify potential hazards and implement measures to mitigate risks, ensuring a safe work environment.

  • Investigate incidents and accidents, conducting root cause analyses and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Work closely with other departments, including Operations, Human Resources, and Legal, to ensure EHS initiatives are integrated into all aspects of the business.

Important Details: This role requires approximately 50% travel to plants located in the US to your assigned business unit. Proximity to a major airport is a must.

About You:

You’ll fit right in if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in EHS management, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and industry standards.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to drive EHS performance and foster a culture of safety.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyze complex problems, develop practical solutions, and implement effective risk management strategies.

  • Professional certification CSP, CIH, CHP is preferred

  • Experience with environmental management information systems (EMIS) and support software (ex. Intelex, Site Hawk, ISN, or Alchemy) preferred.

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA’s Process Safety Management and/or EPA’s Risk Management Plan Standards.
