System One Quality Systems manager in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania

System One is hiring a Quality Systems Manager for our client in York County. This is a direct hire opportunity that does require working onsite daily. Experience working in heavy industrial environment is necessary.

Position Overview:

The Quality Systems Manager will develop and implement a product line-based Quality Management System to ensure excellence in processes and continuous improvement of products and services. This role involves planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the quality assurance department to continuously improve and monitor the overall quality of products shipped to customers. The manager will maintain awareness of industry best practices in quality assurance and upgrade operations to meet evolving market requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Management System Development:

  • Develop and implement a robust Quality Management System tailored to product lines to ensure superior process excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Establish objectives, goals, and programs for Quality Assurance.

  • Quality Assurance Operations:

  • Oversee the operation of the Quality Assurance Department, ensuring the ongoing improvement and monitoring of product quality.

  • Maintain systems for measuring outgoing and incoming quality levels of products and raw materials, making disposition decisions for non-compliant materials.

  • Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Accumulate, compile, and report quality and quality cost information, including complaint frequency, cost of complaints, and in-plant quality losses.

  • Maintain detailed and specific quality reports compared to standards.

  • Specifications and Testing:

  • Establish and maintain specifications for all manufactured paper products and incoming raw materials.

  • Develop and maintain test facilities and staff, including job descriptions, work procedures, job assignments, evaluations, training, and scheduling systems.

  • Audit and Improvement Systems:

  • Develop and maintain an audit system to evaluate the effectiveness of testing programs and personnel.

  • Implement measures to test the overall effectiveness of the quality function.

  • Interdepartmental Collaboration:

  • Maintain operational policies and provide support to Sales, Manufacturing Services, Engineered Products, and Materials Management departments as needed.

  • Communicate inter-mill converting issues, recommend, and implement corrective actions.

  • Quality Certification and Training:

  • Develop and maintain quality programs and procedures compliant with ISO 9000-9004 standards.

  • Promote the use of statistical techniques (SPC) for in-process operation analysis and control.

  • Introduce and maintain computer systems for specification management and quality information storage and reporting.

  • Promote quality training throughout departments and maintain floor presence to identify and close knowledge and skill gaps.

  • Budget Management:

  • Develop and manage capital and operating budgets for the Quality Assurance Department.

  • Product Knowledge and Decision Making:

  • Maintain extensive knowledge of products and customer specifications to make sound quality decisions.

  • Ensure consistency across product lines and mill sites by communicating with sales, marketing, product control, and other site QA leads.

    Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two to four years of related experience and/or training.

  • Key Competency Areas:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Highly motivated and practical, with strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Team player, conscientious, and willing to assume responsibility.

  • Language and Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

  • Effective report writing, business correspondence, and procedure manual creation.

  • Proficient in presenting information and responding to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Mathematical and Analytical Skills:

  • Advanced mathematical proficiency, including exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

  • Reasoning and Problem-Solving Skills:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Capable of interpreting extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and dealing with abstract and concrete variables.

  • Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, internet software, email, inventory, manufacturing software, and database software.
