Job Summary

Applies diversified knowledge of maintenance and modifications engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization to resolve important questions and plan and coordinate work. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modifications and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.

Demonstrates engineering competence in all tests and methods prescribed in the Maintenance Program. Routinely performs maintenance/modifications of significant complexity with minimal technical direction/support. Assumes responsibility for significant work components within large projects. Acts as local project manager over projects, coordinating multi-skilled, multi-discipline work groups. Writes/reviews written work plans/functional tests/procedures. Performs troubleshooting and provides technical engineering support to craft/customer personnel. Performs out of tolerance investigations. Develops corrective action plans and implements actions. Calculates test parameters, analyses results and reviews performance of components.

Recommends changes to components and programs. Attends project scoping meetings or design reviews, recommends changes to specification diagrams based on technical and operational issues, provides field man-hour estimates, and develops outage/transition plans to facilitate project implementation. Works with design staff during engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field information and valid requirements. Identifies and incorporates impacts into work management system/procedures.

Achieve and maintain training requirements in assigned accredited training programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

May coordinate and review the work of a multi-skilled, multi-discipline project/maintenance group.

Supervision Received

Independently performs most assignments with minimal guidance. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.

Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific) Prerequisite: Thorough understanding of engineering principles; thorough understanding of the bases and methods/tests of the Maintenance Program and demonstrated competence in its implementation including test equipment.

Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)

Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or comparable related engineering discipline from an accredited curriculum with a high degree of technical and practical knowledge of applicable nuclear plant equipment/systems and procedures. Membership in professional and technical societies is desirable. License as a Professional Engineer is desirable. Must have demonstrated proficiency in Electrical Engineering or other related engineering degree as evidenced by completion of Engineering Graduate Progression Plan or equivalent post engineering graduate education and experience.

Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume “on-call” rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability. Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVAN procedures during peak periods. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location.
