Special Education Consultant Teacher
John F. Kennedy Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Position Title:Special Education, Consultant Teacher, grades 6-8 (Probationary)
Location: Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District, John F. Kennedy Middle School
Salary/Pay Scale: $43,953 - $54,207 commensurate with experience (with an additional $2,200 for Masters Degree as per the TAC contract)
Position Summary/Purpose:
In the Cheektowaga-Sloan UFSD, the faculty and staff are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment that recognizes all students' unique needs and talents by combining character education with a curriculum based on critical thinking. The emphasis is on teaching the whole child to create lifelong learners best prepared for college, their careers, and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
Show evidence of thoughtful and reflective lesson planning
Identify and implement specific student learning outcomes to be attained in relation to student learning needs and IEP objectives
Make data-driven decisions and maintain appropriate documentation
Apply appropriate teaching strategies consistent with student needs, selected curriculum, and time allocations
Make appropriate accommodations for each student's physical, educational, or behavioral disabilities
Create a welcoming classroom environment where every student feels respected and supported
Consult and collaborate with support staff and administration regarding strategies that will enable all students to achieve success
Collaborate with colleagues and parents to ensure student success and well-being
Make appropriate use of instructional time, maintain an appropriate physical environment, and appropriate individual, class, and program records
Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and leadership
Knowledge of educating the whole child by supporting academic, social, and emotional growth
Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously enhance teaching skills
Other duties as assigned by supervisors
Requirements & Qualifications:
NYSED Certification in Special Education 7-12 required
NYSED Certification in Special Education, grade 6, is preferred but not required
Content Certification of ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies is preferred but not required
Experience as a special education teacher at the middle and high school level is preferred but not required
