TriMas Corporation Weld Shop Engineer in Simi Valley, California

Principal Responsibilities:

In this position, the Weld Engineer is responsible for development and improving welding processes and welder certification process along with RSA weld team. Assisting weld shop and welders with process improvements, certifications and documentation. Guide technicians with implementing process improvements, certifications and documentation. Reports to Operations Director as part of the welding team.

Basic Qualifications (Job Requirements):

Able to assist welders with process problems related to welding

Provide innovative, technically significant welding solutions in support of fabrication

Responsible for fusion welding schedule development and documentation with support of the shop floor, including development of weld processes/parameters for various weld processes, and identification of new and/or improved welding processes/techniques.

Support MRB actions by aiding and guiding appropriate staff in correct repair or corrective action steps.

Responsible for customer and NADCAP compliance audits with support of the Quality Engineering team, including preparation of checklists, including supporting maintenance of NADCAP Certifications for GTAW and RSA Welding processes.

Conduct welding internal process audits with support of the Quality Engineering Team.

Expert knowledge of applicable NDT processes and specifications

Ability to interpret and understand drawings and drawing requirements

Management and execution of welding qualification tests, along with interpretation of results including inspecting weld samples and/or working with nondestructive test (NDT) personnel to interpret weld quality.

Provide feedback to the operational (work order) standards and shop aids to increase efficiency and throughput of weldment assemblies and subassemblies.

Must be certifiable to RSA internal CWI and AWS B 5.2 as a visual welding inspector.

Must have general knowledge of AWS D17.1, AWS D17.2 and customer specifications

Must be able to work without direct supervision.

Must be capable of training other employees in the preparation and welding of parts.

Must maintain a clean working environment for all machines, tools, and equipment.

Must be able to perform routine duties and other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

AWS QC1 certification

Previous experience welding thin-gage materials (0.010 inches to 0.125 inches)

Previous experienced welding with electric turntable (foot-controlled)

Minimum Education & Experience:

Experience as a welding engineer or welding expert in the Aerospace industry for 5 years minimum.Experience with development of welding procedures schedules.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Extensive knowledge of materials, weld symbols and fabrication drawings,

Knowledge and clear understanding of the following weld processes: Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Spot resistance,

Knowledge and clear understanding of the welding codes: AWS D17.1, AWS B5.2, AWS D17.2, AWS B5.2

Collaborate effectively with engineers and other departments.

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as blueprints, manufacturing planning (routers), safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to communicate in the English language.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Essential Physical/ Mental Abilities Required:

The employee is regularly required to stand, reach with hands and arms, required to walk and sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear, and climb and dismount both stairs and platforms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the individual occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise-level is usually moderate.

The pay scale for this position ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 annually.
