Position Summary: The Special Education (SPED) Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to high school students with disabilities, ensuring their academic, social, and emotional growth. The SPED Teacher develops and implements individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborates with general education teachers and support staff, and fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Education Programs (IEPs):

    • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
    • Conduct assessments to determine students\' eligibility for special education services and to inform IEP development.
    • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, and other support staff to create and review IEPs.
  2. Instruction and Curriculum Development:

    • Provide differentiated instruction that meets the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities.
    • Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and abilities.
    • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions to promote academic achievement and personal growth.
  3. Classroom Management and Environment:

    • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that fosters learning and development.
    • Implement positive behavior support plans and interventions to address challenging behaviors.
    • Monitor and report on student progress, adjusting instruction as needed to meet individual goals.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and co-teaching models.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, IEP goals, and any concerns.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.
  5. Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education services.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including IEPs, assessment data, and progress reports.
    • Complete required documentation and reporting in a timely manner.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with best practices in special education and related fields.
    • Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
    • Engage in continuous improvement and reflective practice to enhance teaching effectiveness.
