This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. As the Sr Turbomachinery Manager for the Zero Boil Off (ZBO) Cryocooler Program within Lunar Transportation, you will report to the Director for Hardware Design on the ZBO Cryocooler program and directly support program execution. The Sr Turbomachinery Manager is responsible for leading and managing the design, development, and implementation of turbomachinery related to our company's cryocooler products. This position will support all aspects of ZBO Cryocooler Turbomachinery team management and includes accountability and oversight of technical design from initial conceptual design to final product certification, cost, schedule, risk management and personnel management. The Sr Turbomachinery Manager will also be responsible for working with the functional groups throughout Blue Origin including coordinating and facilitating support from EPM, TFO, Operations, Finance, and other organizations within the company in support of hardware design and development activities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight. Responsibilities: Lead and manage the design and development of gas bearing turbomachinery and components related to our Blue Origin's cryocooler products. Ensure the timely delivery of turbomachinery that meet our requirements, performance specifications, and cost and schedule targets. Manage and mentor the turbomachinery team, including staffing, training, performance evaluation, and workload allocation. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Program, Project, Leadership, suppliers, and other internal departments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate turbomachinery with other systems, such as structures, fluids, avionics, etc. Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team Stay current on industry trends, technologies, and regulations Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching employees. Strong technical knowledge of turbomachinery systems, including compressors, turbines, rotordynamics, aerodynamics. Experience with the design, analysis, fabrication of the high-speed gas-bearing turbomachines including gas bearings (herringbone and foil), impellers (open and closed), diffusers, nozzles, volutes, motors, alternators and more.
