Amazon Business(AB) is a B2B offering of Amazon retail store. AB Search team works across all the layers of Amazon's Central Search system (formerly A9) to improve the search quality and experience for Business Customers. We are looking for an innovative and result-oriented SDE to work on Search Autocomplete suggestions and CX, Search Page results content, and Search Page Refinements areas to identify opportunities which require a differentiated systems for Amazon Business customers.

AB customers are inherently different than retail customers as they want to complete their buying mission quickly. Since Search is a primary ingress point for Amazon Business customers into their buying journey, AB Search team works to improve the search experience by making it easier for them to decide what they want to buy. To that end - AB Search team has created AB specific 1) Autocomplete suggestion generation and ranking layer, 2) ASIN widgets in Autocomplete, 3) Search page widgets 4) Search page layout and design 5) Search page refinements 6) Search results organic ranking 7) Search relevance features.

We are seeking a software engineer who would be able to grasp all these systems, and enhance them as required to meet customer needs. Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer, you will:

  • Understand the existing central search ecosystem and the layers which are customized for Amazon Business and write code to existing central search systems or build new systems

  • Autonomously drive the projects through the Software Development Lifecycle, i.e. Design, Implementation, Testing, Monitoring

  • Be responsible for the architecture of software solutions, determining current limitations and compatibility between subsystems, the selection of new concepts and methodology, and the development of major features and services

  • Partner with other AB teams to incorporate their use cases in Search experience

  • Collaborate with Scientists to deliver search result relevance ranking and Autocomplete suggestion ranking experiments

  • Mentor junior engineers on the team, and participate inknowledge sharing sessions

A day in the life

On the AB Search team, Software Dev Engineer II work with Product Managers to understand the customer requirements, and then identifies/works on the areas in central search ecosystem that should be customized for enhancing AB customer search experience.

About the team

AVX team provide a complete set of accurate, informative, and consistent visual content for every product in Amazon stores by acquiring and selecting the best content from Selling Partners and contributors, and augmenting or generating new content as necessary to create a clean visual shopping experience and increase customer purchase confidence.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with Information Retrieval systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
