Port of Seattle Senior Systems Engineer in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and support of enterprise systems critical for business operations.

  • You will proactively monitor systems to identify and resolve issues and provide 24x7 on-call support to recover systems from critical failures.

  • You will directly work with customers to investigate and resolve system issues collaboratively.

  • You will be responsible for integrating the system into the organization's infrastructure.

  • You will work with other Information & Communication Technology (ICT) engineers, external agencies, vendors, and business units to deploy, configure, and manage technology platforms, management systems, system architecture and enterprise business applications.

  • You will, as part of the DevOps team, work with software developers and other engineers to ensure the development of the system is according to architecture and security standards and best practices.

  • You will participate in the system procurement process and provide technical guidance and recommendations to select systems that fit standards.

  • You will adhere to established team and organizational standards, processes, and procedures and meet the organization's set goals for Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and deadlines for tasks and projects.

  • You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, collaborating with other teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Who you are:

  • Experienced – You have four (4) years of experience in Information Technology.

  • Desired – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or business administration.

  • Expert - You have expertise in networking protocols and services such as Firewall, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, SNMP, and programming languages such as C/C , .NET, and Java/JavaScript. You are skilled in architecture principles, SQL query writing, and database platforms such as MSSQL, Oracle, and MySQL. You also have advanced knowledge of Agile, DevOps, and related tools.

  • Technologically Skilled – You have working knowledge of Windows and Linux Server technologies and Virtualization (VMWare). You have advanced knowledge in one or more scripting technologies like PowerShell, Python, Ruby, and Linux Shell Scripting.

  • Highly Organized – You have project management skills, including planning and prioritizing tasks, managing timelines, and coordinating with other stakeholders.

What else you need to know:

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.

  • Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.

  • Security Requirements – In this role, you will be required to access Port of Seattle Police Department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehicles. In compliance with Federal and State laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) criminal history background check.
