Amazon Selling Partner Developer Services is seeking a results-driven, nimble, and customer-obsessed technical writer to be part of a small team that is re-defining API content. Our documentation team plays a vital role in providing thought leadership internally to protect and improve Developer Success. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a difference by working with a terrific technical team to advocate for the needs of developers, explore innovative solutions to the complex issues developers face, and deliver high-quality technical documentation.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills and a technical background that enables them to collaborate effectively with Software Engineers, Solutions Architects, Product Managers, and Technical Program Managers while delivering high-quality technical documentation.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop documentation for Selling Partner API via collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)

  • Flexibly alternate between content creation and editing tasks for a variety of technical content assets

  • Author content according to a style guide and identify necessary style guide updates and improvements

  • Manage a weekly work queue of documentation requests

  • Proactively identify needed process improvements, documentation design improvements, and road blocks to content development and design solutions to address them

  • Constantly advocate for improvements to the developer experience and documentation quality standards

  • Appropriately identify issues needing escalation

  • Able to act in an advisory capacity to teams creating draft source documentation

About the team

The vision of Selling Partner Developer Services API Release and Globalization team is to externalize quality, global API data products with speed and scale via a self-service experience supported by comprehensive, accessible multi-language documentation to simplify building, migrating to, or integrating with Amazon APIs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience as a Technical Writer

  • A minimum of three years in a technical writing role, producing public-facing content for a developer audience

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment

  • Experience working directly with engineers and subject matter experts

  • Experience working in an Agile environment

  • Experience managing a work queue in an issue tracking system (Jira, Team Foundation Server, etc)

  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to balance competing priorities

  • Demonstrated time management skills to maximize focused writing and editing throughput

  • Demonstrated skills in grammar, technical writing, editing, and adhering to style standards

  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to organize and document information in a clear and concise manner for a variety of audiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Communications, Computer Science, English or a related field

  • Knowledge of web analytics and reporting

  • Experience deriving actionable content plans from social media engagement and responses

  • Experience maintaining a style guide

  • Familiarity with Open API and Swagger specifications

  • A working knowledge of a programming language, such as Java, C#, Python, etc.

  • Experience with Git, GitHub, Markdown, authoring tools, repository management and source control systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $173,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
