We are seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer professional in Herndon, VA, Arlington, VA, or Seattle, WA who can operate with a startup mentality while partnering with managers and business leaders to deliver sound, data-backed recommendations and insights, identify areas of improvement and suggest and implement solutions.

The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, excited about data mining and generate insights that will influence the direction the organization. You will be curious and comfortable digging deep into data and developing core metrics to identify areas of improvement and partner with the business to find effective solutions. You will develop new ways to measure and track our performance, and improve the customer experience by building robust technical and analytical solutions to help us better understand customer needs. You will empower data driven decision making through implementing principles of data mining, data modelling, and analytical skills to define and measure metrics for evaluating health of the business. You will be able to extract, integrate and work on critical data to build out data pipelines, automate reports and dashboards to communicate your findings and leverage self-service tools to internal stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, test, document, and operate large-scale, high-volume, high-performance data structures for business intelligence analytics.

• Implementing data structures using best practices in data modeling to provide on-line reporting and analysis using business intelligence tools and a logical abstraction layer against large, multi-dimensional datasets and multiple sources.

• Gathering business and functional requirements and translating the gathered requirements into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture.

• Analyzing source data systems and driving best practices in source teams.

• Analyzing large amounts of data, discovering and solving real world problems, and building metrics and business cases to help business teams to make decisions.

• Participating in the full development life cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation and testing, to documentation, delivery, support, and maintenance to produce comprehensive, usable dataset documentation and metadata.

• Evaluating and making decisions around dataset implementations designed and proposed by peer data engineers. Identifying business process improvements from the data level.

• Analyzing and evaluating business process, and through data driven insights proposing and implementing business process improvement.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

  • 4+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • 4+ years of experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • 4+ years of experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • 4+ years of experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field

  • 4+ years of experience working as a BIE in a technology company

  • 4+ years of experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

  • 3+ years of experience with forecasting and statistical analysis

  • 3+ years of experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • 3+ years of experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
