Amazon Applied Scientist, Artificial General Intelligence in Seattle, Washington
Description
The Artificial General Intelligent team (AGI) seeks an Applied Scientist with a strong background in the fields of large language models (LLMs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems, and/or Information Retrieval, to invent and build scalable solutions for a state-of-the-art context-aware conversational AI. You will work on core LLM technologies, including Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), In-Context Learning (ICL), and Learning from Human Feedback (LHF). A successful candidate will have hands-on experience building Generative AI solutions with LLMs, and a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas. We are seeking an AS who enjoys operating in a dynamic environment under ambitious timelines, is self-motivated to take on challenging problems to deliver big customer impact, moves fast to ship solutions, and iterates on user feedback and interactions.
Key job responsibilities
Analyze, understand, and model customer behavior and the customer experience based on large scale data
Develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to reduce friction and enable natural and contextual conversations
Build and deploy automated model training and evaluation pipelines
Perform model/data analysis and monitor metrics through online A/B testing
Research and implement novel machine learning and deep learning algorithms and models
Analyze, understand and improve user experiences by leveraging Amazon’s heterogeneous data sources and large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in artificial intelligence

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of building models for business application experience
PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
