ESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review customer statement of work (SOW) documents, specifications, and manuals to ensure all requirements are met or exceeded for projects involving new product design, hardware modification, and engineering analyses.
  • Design components of mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, pneumatic, or heat transfer systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and structures.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of product or system layouts, detailed drawings, and schematics.
  • Perform engineering analyses of components and systems using finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), classical hand calculations, and other methods.
  • Direct personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Actively participate in product testing.
  • Direct and coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to required industry and government standards, as well as customer specifications.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
  • Compile and analyze operational, test and research data to establish Acceptance Test Standards for newly designed or modified equipment.
  • Direct and/or create, review, and execution of technical manuals, ATPs, QTPs, and ICDs with Quality Assurance and Technical Publications groups.
  • Review and/or prepare Bills of Material (BOMs) for purchase of electrical materials and supplies in support of fabrication.
  • Direct and review (and/or prepare) required Notices of Revision (NOR) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) to document proposed or final changes to existing product designs, including plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with drafting personnel concerning design drawings and fabrication drawings. Review and approve the data produced by drafting personnel.
  • Able to communicate clearly both verbally and non-verbally (e.g., email, memos, sketches, drawings) and explain work to his/her supervisor and others in the group. Can work effectively with peers.
  • Lead internal design reviews to convey design intent and execution to all stakeholders.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions, as well as improve system performance.
  • Work with Technical Publications Group to revise and create Technical Orders, Manuals, and other documentation.
  • Assist in developing quotes and technical proposals.
  • Stay current on engineering software capabilities and techniques, as well as physical testing methods.
  • Work to stay within project budgets and schedules.
  • Evaluate engineering, manufacturing, and business processes, making suggestions as appropriate to make improvements.
  • Work to develop, mentor, and train junior engineers, assisting in the review of their work.
  • Track project progress and report to internal and external stakeholders as required.
  • May be involved in customer service support duties as required, in person or remote.
  • Assist in the management and establishment of department work instructions, procedures, and standards for Mechanical Engineering. Assist as requested in the establishment of work instructions for other disciplines in the department.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

ISO9000 SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Be f miliar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.
  • Understand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Participate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in ISO9000 training as required.
  • Cooperate with Auditors.
  • Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university; or five (5) or more years related experience and / or training; or combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Extensive experience using 3-D Solid Modeling software (SolidWorks), Structural FEA (ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation), CFD software (ANSYS CFX / FLUENT or SolidWorks Flow Simulation), MATLAB, and Microsoft Office products.

Preferred

  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) test completed/should be registered EIT at hire.
  • Extensive experience using 3-D Solid Modeling software (SolidWorks), Structural FEA (ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation), CFD software (ANSYS CFX/FLUENT or Solid Works Flow Simulation), MATLAB, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience using SolidWorks PDM vault) - design documents organization.

Successful completion and passing of the EIT exam recommended; preparing for the PE exam preferred.
