Summary This job opportunity is for an HEALTH TECHNICIAN, position description D1243000, within the State Surgeon Office of the New Jersey National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position. The purpose of the position is to plan, schedule, manage, and administer a Industrial Hygiene/Bioenvironmental Engineering Program, which includes occupational health hygiene, radiation safety, and environmental monitoring. Responsibilities As an HEALTH TECHNICIAN, GS-0640-8, you will: Serve as a technical advisor to Wing leadership on all issues pertaining to Occupational Safety and Health directives Performs a variety of special tasks, such as portions of occupational health/industrial hygiene investigations or surveys as directed by the OHN Inspect and evaluate operational facilities and various activities to detect and eliminate health hazards Manage and assess installation environmental sampling, analysis and monitoring requirements Maintains and inputs OH/IH data into required federal/military database systems (e.g., U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion & Preventive Medicine (USHCHPPM), DOEHRS-HC and Health Hazard Information Management System (HHIMS) Review and approve issues related to hazardous material including personal protective equipment and disposal requirements Assists the OHN with implementation of comprehensive OH/IH Programs to include initial and on-going medical evaluations, hazard assessments, control measures, hearing and vision conservation, and employee training and education. Manage a multitude of safety and environmental health programs and platforms Provides assistance in the administration of the JFHQ-S Occupational Health/Industrial Hygiene (OH/IH) programs to include, but not limited to, various duties in support of the Medical Surveillance, Respiratory Protection, Industrial Hygiene, Hearing Conservation, Vision Conservation, and Bloodborne Pathogen Programs Performs other duties as assigned Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military Grades: E-5 to E-6 Applicant(s) (Enlisted) who are over grade must clearly state, in their resumes, their intentions to willingly take a reduction in grade Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a military unit compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. Military Unit -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. Specialized Experience: Must have at least 18 months experience, education, or training in the following: A working knowledge of missions, organizations, programs and requirements of occupational health programs Experience analyzing and recommending solutions to complicated problems Experience developing and implementing various policies and procedures used in occupational health programs Experience involving various administrative areas such as budget, personnel and public relations within a medical activity Education Completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation for GS-5 positions. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7. Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree meets the requirements for GS-9. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.
