The Revenue Management is the team that deals with a payment portfolio of applications and managing the rates and inventory of certain hotel brands. As a key member of our team, you will analyze, design, code, implement, support, enhance and debug an enterprise-level system component and is considered the subject matter expert on a systems functionality, behavior, and capabilities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Technical Specifications: Serves as a software engineer for supporting/enhancing enterprise systems software component additions and modifications.

  • Coding: Serves as the software engineer during the coding phase of the development cycle.

  • Quality Assurance (QA) Testing: Collaborates with the software engineering test teams during the quality assurance phase of the development cycle.

  • Production Release: Serves as primary support before, during and after the systems Production rollout.

  • Operation support: Work with operations team to resolve major incidents including on-call support.

  • Site Reliability: Improve service resiliency and performance of the production infrastructure.

  • Utilities: Actively involved in the selection and/or creation of tools for design, modeling, programming, debugging, testing, diagnostics, monitoring, profiling, operations, logging, reporting, security checking, or analysis.

  • Management: Participates in third-party system analysis to identify potential implementations and integrations.

  • Education: Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards, languages, coding techniques, utilities, and operational considerations.

  • The Go-to expert for assigned areas of the codebase; understands the broad architecture of the entire system.

  • Thinks at the enterprise level for reliability, scalability, maintainability, extensibility, portability, and security.

  • Provides technical advice and weighs in on technical decisions that impact other systems or the company at large. Researches and proposes new technologies.

  • Scopes and stages work into well-defined milestones to avoid a monolithic deliverable.

  • Regularly delivers software on-time and is constantly working to make accurate estimates and deliver on those estimates.

  • Owns the technical testing and performance plan for their project work.

  • Takes initiative to identify and solve important problems, coordinating with others on cross-cutting technical issues

  • Identifies and proactively tackles technical debt before it grows into debt that requires significant up-front work to resolve

  • Identifies and proposes strategies around technical problems affecting their team, communicates standards and gets buy-in on solutions

  • Makes others better through code pull reviews, thorough documentation, technical guidance, and mentoring or serving as a Tech Lead on a project.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

· Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field, from a four-year college or university, or related experience and/or training.

· A minimum of 5 years relevant experience in software development, information systems, or equivalent technical environment, including previous experience in the development of highly transactional, mission critical applications in heterogeneous environments/architectures for multi-user systems.

· Hands on experience in all aspects of the software development lifecycle: design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, release, and operational support.

· Strong knowledge of agile software development methodologies, Service Oriented Architecture, and object-oriented programming methodologies.

Required Skills

Strong proficiency with the following technologies:

  • Java

  • ReactJS

  • Spring or similar MVC framework

  • Unix/Linux

  • Service oriented designs and technologies (AJAX, XML/JSON)

  • Web service protocols, such as SOAP or REST

  • SQL, Relational DBMS – Oracle, SQL, or others

  • Servers – Tomcat, WebLogic, or others

  • Source control tools such as Subversion or GIT

  • Strong verbal, written and listening communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with DevOps configuration and support, using technologies such as Jenkins

  • Micro service architecture

  • Knowledge of hospitality industry

  • Relevant industry certification, such as Oracle Java Developer

  • Experience working on Amazon EC2

  • Messaging platforms such as ActiveMQ or Kafka

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Manager, Software Engineering. You will have 5 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Software Engineer III, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art technology hub in Scottsdale, Arizona. In October 2021, Choice opened a newly constructed world class technology center.

Right now, our associates in Scottsdale, AZ are working in a hybrid environment, between two-four days per week in the office and working virtually the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
