As the Permit Center Supervisor, South County, you will supervise and oversee the South County Permit Center staff and are responsible for permit processing, work schedules, training, performance, team goals, coaching and counseling and assisting the Building Official or Deputy Building Official. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys a high level of customer interaction and can build and foster positive working relationships and maintain an excellent customer service standard when interfacing with both internal and external customers.   • Supervise the daily activities of the permit center/inspections hotline staff and direct work assignments to ensure effective and timely service to the public as well as internal agencies.

  • Assess fees based on the Fee & Fines Ordinance.

  • Process customer inquiries and makes decisions in accordance with applicable ordinances, regulations and unit policies.

  • Research files, databases, internet, GIS and maps for a variety of source background materials.

  • Balance/reconcile cash at assigned workstation at end of each day. Attendance at annual cash handling classes required.

  • Interpret policy & develop procedures to streamline service to customers.

  • Serve as liaison between customers, homeowners, contractors and Building division to advise and guide customers and develop solutions to problems.

  • Participate in the hiring process for the permit center/inspections hotline staff.

  • Work with the Project Manager/Business Analyst, Deputy Building Official and/or Building Official for training, development and/or discipline of staff.

  • Formulate training programs for the development of customer service, technical & clerical skills for all levels of staff.

  • Perform employee reviews and set performance goals.

  • Participate and work with the Building Official’s office with budget/financial needs.

  • Maintain and file pertaining to permits and works/coordinates with the Permit Records Custodian to ensure records are properly transferred, scanned and maintained.

  • Manage proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in area of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; review audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.

    E-Work/Hybrid Work: Currently this position is eligible to e-work up to 2 days per week! After you complete your first six months, contingent on work requirements and other factors, you’ll be eligible for this fantastic benefit.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

About You

To thrive in this position, you must have-

  • Minimum of High School diploma and four (4) years related experience

  • -OR- An Associate’s degree and two (2) years of experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred

  • A minimum of one year supervisory experience is required (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted)

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $56,617.60 - $61,000.00 , based on experience.
