Summary The Air Force offers qualified applicants opportunities to be hired for certain occupations covered by Direct Hire Authorities (DHA). Manages, leads, and transitions foreign basic research programs across the broad disciplines of material science, chemistry, biology, physics, space, and/or related scientific and engineering sub-disciplines. Receives broad recognition as a top technical expert and engages with university professors and top research scientists as a technical equal to identify significant developments in Latin American (LATAM) research. Visits research and development (R&D) institutions, conducts technical assessments, and serves as a Laboratory Liaison Officer for the International Science Division, U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR). Performs detailed analysis of projects, programs, or evolving trends across broad scientific disciplines. Formulates and communicates a strategic approach to selecting, issuing, and managing small grants that achieve DAF's long-term objectives. Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. General Schedule Qualification Standards Basic Requirements: OPM Qualification Standard for General Physical Science Series, 1301 Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: To qualify for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the DO-03 (GS-14) broadband. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Problem Solving Communication Technology Management Teamwork and Leadership PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
