Job Description

The Senior Director will oversee a team of wet and dry lab scientists generating and analyzing data including RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, whole genome and targeted sequencing projects from translational medicine, process development and discovery research. The Senior Director will have a key role within the Research Leadership Team, aligning with research strategy for Kite’s chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T) programs in multiple disease areas including solid tumors and autoimmune diseases. A demonstrated ability to interface with basic science and clinical teams, develop bioinformatic strategies, advise on LLM/AI search programs, manage a large data lake and lead an enthusiastic team is desired. This position reports to our Vice President, Cell Biology and Translational Medicine and is based out of our Santa Monica, CA headquarters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a scientific team managing multifaceted projects involving genomic / transcriptional data

  • Partner with IT to maintain secure data infrastructure

  • Design and oversee systems for knowledge extraction from publicly available datasets and resources to inform strategic research directions and program development.

  • Develop automated or semi-automated analytical tools to enhance cross-functional decision-making by integrating domain expertise with multi-dimensional data analysis

  • Accelerate interpretation of complex immunological mechanisms and cancer-immune interactions by leveraging large language models and machine-learning-based approaches to enhance traditional analytical approaches

  • Architect integration strategies to safely incorporate language models into research and development workflows

  • Establish a technology monitoring program to track and evaluate emerging applications of generative technologies in biomedical and pharmaceutical research

  • Develop and implement internal programs to train staff and raise awareness on safe and compliant usage of large language models for research, data analysis, and knowledge synthesis

  • Develop software for visualization, analysis, and interpretation of multi-dimension experimental and translational data

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate and 12+ years of Scientific experience OR

  • Master’s and 12+ years of Scientific experience OR

  • Bachelor’s and 14+ years of Scientific experience OR

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in relevant field (bioinformatics, systems biology or a closely related field)

  • Deep background in large scale data analysis/management

  • Experience participating with regulatory teams up to and including IND submission

  • Comfortable in a matrixed and dynamic environment and able to adapt to changing priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proficient with data presentations to communicate to a diverse cross-functional audience

  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

The salary range for this position is: $237,575.00 - $307,450.00. Kite considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
