Amergis Deaf and Hard of Hearing Instructor Position in Santa Clarita, California

Overall Purpose: The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing works with students in assigned schools, providing direct or consultative services. They collaborate with classroom teachers to develop appropriate modifications and accommodations for DHH students based on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Additionally, they offer listening and spoken language therapy to children. This unique role allows for scheduling flexibility and the ability to provide both school services and early intervention services.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct instruction, consultation, and support to DHH students across multiple settings.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop IEP goals and maintain timelines.

  • Conduct case conferences and write goals.

  • In early intervention, conduct initial and ongoing evaluations, progress monitoring, and therapy for children (primarily ages 0-3).

  • Oversee specialized equipment for learners with hearing loss.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of special education law.

  • Utilize an assessment system for progress monitoring.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Collaborate with families, professionals, and voluntary organizations.

  • Stay informed about best practices in education for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

  • Participate in special program projects.

Education/Experience:

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Credential

Details:

  • Location: Santa Clarita, multiple school sites

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-time (40 hours a week)
