  • Must have experience locating, reading and ensuring compliance with Construction Standards, Codes, Laws and Regulations.

  • Must have knowledge of Uniform General Conditions and Supplementary General Conditions for building construction contracts.

  • Must be knowledgeable about standard construction building materials.

  • Must have experience using construction, cost estimating and drafting software.

  • Must have knowledge of ASTM standard testing procedures, asbestos abatement procedures and governing regulations.

  • Must have knowledge of permitting processes.

  • Must have experience with photographic principles and video equipment as they pertain to an active construction site.

  • Must have experience using various standard materials, methods, equipment and tools used for construction processes.

  • Must be skilled in preparing reports, letters, and memos.

  • Must have the demonstrated ability and willingness to establish a professional rapport with others at all times.

  • Must have the ability to read and understand contract documents, technical manuals, electronic devices/gauges, and testing data.

  • Must have the ability to perform intermediate math and explain technical material.

  • Must be able to explain University concerns, issues, and positions regarding construction matters.

  • Must have experience coordinating activities, processes and procedures of others.

  • Extensive field experience for large capital projects is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture or Construction Engineering/Management is preferred.

  • Prefer 5+ years’ experience in Construction Management.

  • Prefer 5+ years’ experience performing construction inspections for city, state or federal agencies.

  • Prefer knowledge of International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, National Electric Code and Uniform Plumbing Code for building construction contracts.

  • Prefer knowledge of Texas State University construction and design standards.

  • Prefer knowledge of National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code.

  • Prefer knowledge of Texas Accessibility Standards and Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • Prefer knowledge of OSHA Standards.

Job Description

Responsible for providing daily inspection of the work of trade contractors on mid-size and large-scale projects to ensure compliance with appropriate codes, laws and standards of construction.

Job Duties

  • Inspect work daily.

  • Assist in coordination of activities, processes and procedures of the Construction Inspector I.

  • Require contractor to correct or replace unsatisfactory materials and workmanship.

  • Report deficiencies observed to the superintendent and architect.

  • Inspect all materials delivered to the project for compliance with specifications and shop drawings.

  • Inspect work for completeness prior to project manager certification.

  • Maintain necessary job records.

  • Oversee the work of testing lab personnel.

  • Review testing lab reports and notify architect and contractor of discrepancies.

  • Provide interpretation of contract requirements.

  • Advise the contractor and subcontractors to maintain and coordinate as-built drawings.

  • Establish punch list items with architect and engineer and contractor for completion.

  • Review contract documents prior to bidding and furnish comments to appropriate personnel.

  • Maintain personal construction log recording significant information and events.

  • Develop and review CADD drawings.

  • Review project close-out documents.

  • Establish commencement dates of guarantee periods and recommended dates for owner’s preliminary acceptance and/or partial occupancy.

  • Coordinate pre-bid walk-through and site visitation.

  • Initiate and attend pre-installation meetings as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
