How you make a difference

The Medical Assistant provides direct and non-direct patient care under the direct supervision and direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional. They administer a variety of duties such as treatment to patients, laboratory, check in/out, and communicate with patients to maintain accurate patient events records. The Medical Assistant participates in the patient plan of care by following written/oral instructions and staying within scope of practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical responsibilities include preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, assisting practitioners during exams, administering treatments, performing EKGs, obtaining lab specimens, and conducting on-site testing.

  • Non-clinical responsibilities include answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, providing test results, ordering and stocking medications and supplies, and organizing the clinic and exam rooms.

  • Administers medications and treatments as per physician orders, including oral, nasal, rectal, vaginal, topical, and aerosol/nebulizer medications, while accurately documenting in patient records.

  • Reports any changes in patient condition to supervisors and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.

  • Assists in job shadowing and training of new employees, while maintaining a clean and organized medication cart and room.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistance program

Experience

  • Previous correctional/detention facility experience preferred

  • Three (3) years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • Unrestricted Certification as a Medical Assistant, if required in assigned state

  • Phlebotomist certification

  • Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS and ACLS certification through AHA

  • Current (and must maintain) security clearance
