Google Senior Software Engineer, Embedded Systems and Graphics in San Jose, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of coding experience in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Java, or Python.

  • 4 years of experience in development, testing, and deployment of embedded systems.

  • 3 years of experience with computer graphic frameworks and libraries, including but not limited to OpenGL, DirectX, or Vulkan.

  • Experience with Android application development.

  • Experience working on the Linux kernel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience with the following programs/systems: RUST, Linux Kernel, DSP Bootloader, Virtualization.

  • Knowledge of embedded systems development, RTOS concepts, device drivers, and hardware/software integration.

  • Knowledge of Android internals/Android Open Source Project.

Android is coming to every display in the car, and we’re supporting that growth by creating software that guarantees the display of safety relevant elements.

We want OEMs to create safety relevant displays using the same tools and technologies that they use today to create Android applications, which we are accomplishing by creating safety certified software and tools that meet automotive OEMs safety goals and integrate with Android Automotive OS.

The Android Auto team collaborate with vehicle manufacturers to develop and deliver on this massive opportunity, building on a proven embedded platform to create a leading Assistant-powered, navigation, entertainment, and communication vehicle system, which will be delivered to specialized people-moving devices.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,000-$239,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Work with a team of engineers focused on developing novel Android system software and related technologies for automotive.

  • Develop software in Rust, Java, C++, and other languages as needed to add features to the Android system software.

  • Build interactive user interfaces using Impeller.

  • Work closely with the Android Automotive OS and Android Mobile teams to extend and improve the platform for automotive users and applications.

  • Work closely with third-party vendor partners and suppliers as needed to integrate Android in broader software and hardware solutions, in the cloud, on reference hardware, and in the vehicle as applicable.
