Description
Amazon is building the largest EV fleet and charging network in the world as part of our Climate Pledge. The Sr. Technical Program Manager will have professional experience in mechanical engineering and have managed 3Ps in developing and scaling up new products. You'll be joining a fast-paced team building from zero-to-one. The ideal candidate for this role will 1) be highly customer obsessed, 2) excited to apply their engineering skills, and 3) excel at building new processes and mechanisms with a multitude of stakeholders, both external and internal.
Key job responsibilities
Drive mechanical design requirements and specifications for EV chargers working backwards from our operations customers, serving as the primary technical interface with ODM engineering teams for design reviews and approvals
Develop and validate mechanical prototypes with ODM partners, ensuring designs meet Amazon's specifications and performance requirements through rigorous testing
Verify mechanical design robustness for Amazon applications through lab and field testing
Establish manufacturing quality control plans and process validation requirements, including critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristics and process capability targets
Root cause and deep dive, and develop solutions for mechanical issues
Review and approve ODM's mechanical designs, manufacturing processes, and quality documentation (PPAP, FAI reports, control plans)
Drive manufacturing validation activities at ODM facilities, including process capability studies, production line audits, and quality system assessments to ensure consistent product quality
Coordinate between internal stakeholders, vendor engineering teams, and manufacturing partners to ensure alignment on mechanical design deliverables and timelines
Drive continuous improvement in hardware design based on field performance data, reliability metrics, and operational insights
Travel will be required 25-30% of the time, with some heavier months and some lighter months.
A day in the life
You'll start off the morning by reviewing third party designs and comparing them against our requirements for Amazon operations. You'll then provide feedback to the 3Ps in writing ahead of a weekly sync up.
In the afternoon, you'll deep dive a high risk failure mode and develop a test plan against it, including prototype development, as well as lab/field testing with our Lab126 partners.
You'll also review plans for manufacturing quality with our supply chain team and develop/suggest key metrics we should track throughout production.
