The current vacancy is at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. The eligible list resulting from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future and current vacancies in this class at other locations within the DPH for the duration of the eligible list.

Under general direction, the 2620 Food Service Manager Administrator plans, organizes, and directs the activities of staff engaged in the preparation and serving of food to patients and personnel within a hospital setting; assists with formulating menus and implements portion sizes in accordance with patient and staff nutritional and dietary needs; oversees the storage of food and the cleaning of kitchen and dining areas, utensils, and equipment; and performs related duties as required.

MAJOR, IMPORTANT, AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Supervises, directly and through subordinate supervisory staff, cooks and other food service personnel engaged in the daily activities of Food and Nutrition Services, which includes ordering, receiving, preparing, portioning, and distributing food and supplies.

  • Initiates and/or reviews performance appraisals and disciplinary actions; schedules staff coverage of food production, cafeteria and/or patient service areas.

  • Assists the Operations Manager of Food and Nutrition Services with the development and administration of all required monthly and annual in-service training, employee orientation, and training documentation

  • Schedules staff and supervisory coverage for all food production, cafeteria and/or patient service areas, including keeping attendance records.

  • Participates in the establishment of departmental standards, policies and procedures to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) standards, Food and Nutrition Services and Infection Control policies and procedures, and local, state, and federal standards.

  • Maintains adequate stock levels and efficient operations within the departmental budget by recording the number of meals served, food, supply and labor costs, cafeteria attendance and supply inventory.

  • Manages the Food and Nutrition Services sanitation and infection control (master cleaning schedule) to comply with State and local health code regulations.

  • Monitors and inspects food, supplies, equipment, and work areas, including preparation storage and serving areas, to ensure purchased items meet specifications upon receipt, correct procedures are followed in the preparation and serving of food to achieve the proper quality, quantities, temperatures, and appearance.

The 2620 Food Service Manager Administrator may perform other duties as assigned/required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; AND

Experience: Three (3) years, within the last five (5) years, of verifiable supervisory and/or management experience in food service operations involving planning, preparing and serving food.

One year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):

This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Supplemental Questionnaire Examination: (Weight = 100%): Qualified candidates will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) exam that must be completed by the set date. Candidates will be evaluated on their relative knowledge, skill and ability levels in job-related areas. A passing score must be achieved on the SQ in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidate responses on the Supplemental Questionnaire cannot be changed once submitted.

The Supplemental Questionnaire will be evaluated in relation to the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this class which may include, but are not limited to:

  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and procedures of modern institutional food service operations and management including production, storage, sanitation, equipment utilization, procurement of supplies, and inventory control.

  • Ability to: Analyze situations accurately and implement effective solutions; implement departmental policies and procedures; effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  • Skills in: Directing and coordinating activities in a large dietary department; delegating and supervising the work of subordinate personnel; preparing records and reports.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the exam in order to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of The List.
