State of Utah - Jobs Tax Compliance Agent III in PROVO, Utah

The Utah State Tax Commission's Customer Services Division is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to fill its Tax Compliance Agent position. This person will play an integral role in Division's mission to answer taxpayer inquires. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a FBI level background check. This job may be filled at any of the advertised levels. Principal Duties The Tax Compliance Agent III will need to have:

  • Experience negotiating with customers
  • Prior experience in collections,including taking legal action
  • Basic understanding of Utah tax laws
  • Skills in dealing with customers in an adverse environment
  • Prior experience working with customers over the phone
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Be able to do your part in a team environment
  • Research information to find answer to questions
  • Data entry skills

The Ideal Candidate The model candidate for this position is someone who:

  • Has exceptional customer service skills
  • Is very detail oriented
  • Has experience with GenTax/Collections
  • Is able to work in office at least one day per week,or as needed.

Job Series This position may be filled at any level within the job series. Tax Compliance Agent II $21.51-$32.32; or, Tax Compliance Agent III $24.00-$36.04.

Salary

*Non-state employees are hired for this position only at entry level (Tax Compliance Agent II),$22.59 an hour. *

We are unable to negotiate hourly wage amounts. DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers for current state employees. 

 

Remote/Hybrid Work Schedule

  • This position is able to work in office at least one day per week,or as needed.

  • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):
    • Employees hired on or after than 7/1/2011 and have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.
    • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
    • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))
    • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contri utes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  
    • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in Tier I Public Employees System.
  • Paid Time Off:
    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).
    • Annual leave increases with years of service. 
    • There are also 12 paid holidays.
