Job Summary
The Utah Education and Telehealth Network ( UETN ) is a statewide research and education network connecting 1,800 locations throughout the state of Utah. This network provides primary, secondary and higher education locations access to the Internet and national research networks. UETN also provide services to dozens of hospitals and clinics for telehealth applications.
We are seeking a skilled IP Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain large-scale IP networks within a service provider environment. In addition to IP networking, this role will also take on responsibilities for managing and maintaining optical and DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) systems. The ideal candidate will have expertise in routing, switching, and optical networks.
Responsibilities
⁃ Design, deploy and maintain IP / Segment Routing network supporting carrier grade services across Cisco routers.
⁃ Advanced troubleshooting of Cisco XR routers and complex IP network deployments.
⁃ Configuration and management of OSPF / BGP / LSP network
⁃ Network design and implementation of Ciena optical network.
⁃ Troubleshooting of Ciena 6500 and Waveserver networks using Site Manager and CLI .
⁃ Provisioning of new DWDM wave and circuit services across Ciena optical network.
⁃ Monitoring and after hours support of Ciena optical network.
⁃ Maintain circuit database containing all Ciena services.
⁃ Oversee design and documentation of dark fiber paths.
⁃ Manage BGP routing between UEN and global internet.
⁃ Design of Segment Routing Path Computation Element.
⁃ Develop detailed documentation archive to be used by operations, engineering and field teams.
⁃ Maintain spare equipment pool.
⁃ Some travel within the state of Utah required.
⁃ Perform after hours maintenance and support.
⁃ Position is required to work at UEN offices, located in Salt Lake City, UT, two days per week. Remote candidates will not be considered.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences
8 years’ experience working IP/ MPLS networks
8 years’ experience working with Cisco CLI
5 years’ experience working with OSPF / BGP
Optical / DWDM experience will be preferred
B.S. in Computer Engineering or Computer Science required
