Position Description: Vighter is recruiting multiple Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurses (RN) to provide OR and patient care support at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, located in Salt Lake City, Utah at 500 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84148 . The OR has 6 rooms providing services for surgical procedures including elective, urgent, and emergent cases. The Salt Lake City VA is rated as a complex surgical facility, therefore provides surgical care to Veterans locally and from surrounding states. OR staff provide care for multiple surgical specialties including cardiothoracic, ENT, plastics, general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, ortho-spine, pain, podiatry, urology, vascular, dental, gynecology, and hybrid cath lab cases. Staff nurses and surgical technicians are required to be proficient in providing care for all surgical specialties. OR staff are responsible to ensure the safety and well-being of all care provided to patients in the OR including proper time out, consent, credentialed staff available, body positioning, documentation of implants, medication administration, maintaining sterile environments, ensuring necessary supply /equipment availability, etc. OR staff need to be prepared for any surgical intervention necessary and are frequently exposed to occupational hazards including blood, chemicals, radiation, COVID-19, and fire. In addition to regularly scheduled surgical cases, OR staff provide on-call services for urgent and emergent cases after hours, weekends, and holidays.

    Job Summary:

    Vighter LLC is recruiting multiple Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurses (RN) to perform patient-based nursing services and support at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 500 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84148. The OR RN reports directly to the nursing team leader and is responsible for maintaining and keeping the Operating Room before the conduct of surgery. Assists in bringing the patient to and from the Medical Center Preoperative location or wing and the Operating Rooms and handles the preparations before and after surgery by washing and disinfecting the area for surgery.

    The RN provides the full range of operating room-based nursing services within the scope of practice for a variety of operative procedures, and ensures that all JHACO standards for care are met during performance of patient care. RNs provide complex and comprehensive professional nursing services within the professional scope of practice for a variety of diagnoses for patients of all ages.

    Operate and monitor specialized equipment including, but not limited to portable dialysis machines, CRRT machines, oxygen, hypothermia units, various types of suction apparatus, infusion equipment, PCA, epidural pumps, sequential compression devices, cardio-respiratory monitors, vital sign monitors, and assist with patients in the Intensive Care settings who have invasive hemodynamic catheters, monitors, and ventilators.

    RNs prepare patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures and assist with procedures as necessary. Provide post-procedure and post-operative recovery care and verifies the content and correctness of all recorded entries in the patient record. All documentation, records and reports must meet or exceed established VA standards to include, but not limited to: timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, and signature. The outpatient record shall be completed the same day the patient is seen.

    Complete and appropriate medical record forms in compliance with VA guidelines and policies on each patient.

    Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse

    Location:Salt Lake City VA Medical Center

    Reports to: Project Manager

    Principle Accountabilities:

  • Has been practicing actively as an RN in an acute or long-term setting for at least the last two years.

  • Is capable of providing complex and comprehensive nursing care for adult medical and surgical patients.

  • Has and maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications.

  • Has no health or physical disability restrictions that interfere with performance of assigned duties.

  • Specialty Registered Nurse: Includes Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department, Psychiatric, etc.

  • Has all credentials and certifications as required for the Registered Nurse position.

  • Assists other staff in discharging patients as needed.

  • Performs other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

    Qualifications:

  • Holds a diploma, Associate of Science or from an NLN accredited program, college, or university and holds a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any State.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited university is preferred.

    Other Qualifications:

  • Shall be a United States Citizen.

  • Shall not have been convicted of a felony.

  • Shall be able to read, write, and speak English.

  • Shall be able to operate a personal computer utilizing Microsoft applications, such as Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. so as to efficiently create and/or utilize an Electronic Medical Record.

    Experience:

  • Has been actively practicing as a registered nurse in an Operating Room, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Room, or Psychiatric setting for two years; or has been actively practicing in an acute and long-term setting for one year.

  • Experience must have been obtained while working in a Surgical Center or Hospital Operating Room environment. (Experience obtained assisting in minor surgical procedures performed within a physician's office is not considered to be appropriate experience.)

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per day.

  • Must be willing to work overtime if necessary.

  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.

  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.

  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.

  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.

  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.

  • Must undergo urine drug testing.
