We are looking for Medical Response Paramedics to join our Salt Lake City team!

Salary: $58,989/year with incremental raises leading to $94,126/year.

    These positions will be part of the Tier II Utah Firefighter Retirement System.

    Under the supervision of a Salt Lake City Fire Department (SLCFD) Officer and the direction of SLCFD’s Medical Division personnel, these positions will provide basic emergency and advanced life support, medical care, and transport to victims of sudden illness and accident upon arrival on scene. The Medical Response Paramedics will not have firefighting-related duties.

    Medical Response Paramedics (MRPs) will work alongside firefighter/EMTs and social workers (Community Health Access Team) on the Medical Response Team.

    The MRP will be assigned to a medical squad unit .

    The work week is 40 hours, with schedules of either Mon-Wed or Thurs-Sat.

    The first day of each shift is 14 hours (7:30 am - 9:30 pm), and days two and three are 13 hours (7:30 am - 8:30 pm).

    Offers of employment are contingent on successful completion of a criminal background check in accordance with City policy and applicable law. Criminal offenses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and do not automatically disqualify a candidate from City employment.

    Application :

Qualified candidates may be contacted directly for an initial interview and physical assessment. Candidates who successfully complete this stage may then proceed through the remainder of the selection process.

    To apply for this position, candidates must complete this online application and upload their NREMT Paramedic certificate or State of Utah Paramedic license and resume , along with proof of completion of a Paramedic school or program, to their Workday profile. If candidates fail to upload their NREMT Paramedic certificate or State of Utah Paramedic license AND resume they will not be considered. Candidates may also submit a DD-214 if applicable.

    Eligibility :

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Successful completion of paramedic training and maintenance of NREMT certification.

  • Must satisfy the medical condition requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1582.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

  • Successful completion of a pre-hire physical ability test.

  • Once hired, all relevant licensures must be always maintained .

    Testing Process :

    Selection Process Scoring:

  • Practical Assessment - 50%

  • Oral Board Interview - 45%

  • Resume - 5%

  • Task Performance Assessment for Paramedics (TPA-P) – Pass/Fail

    The Salt Lake City Fire Department will also accept valid CPAT certificates in place of passing the TPA-P.

    Method of Scoring and Ranking:

    An applicant’s final score will be determined based on the weighted assessment of the practical assessment , oral board interview, and resume. Candidates will be ranked according to their final score.

    Preference points will then be added as follows:

  • Veteran: 5 % points

  • Disabled Veteran: 10 % points
